Activated biochars used as adsorbents for dyes removal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Adsorption represents one of the most interesting technique for the removal of pollutants from wastewaters. Activated carbons show the best performances on this kind of processes but their high production costs limit their applications. In this context a

Removing Oxide Layers and Retaining Oxide‐Free Steel Surfaces by Polishing in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the efficacy of wet mechanical polishing under an oxygen‐free atmosphere for deoxidation and the retention of an oxide‐free steel surface are elucidated using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methodology proved successful; however, the results were highly dependent on the preparation of the solvents used to clean the samples after ...

Coupled selective adsorption and ozonation for non biodegradable COD removal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This paper investigates a new water treatment process based on the combined use of the pollutant adsorption onto a mineral surface, and the ozonation of the adsorbed species.

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Color Compounds Removal from Tequila Vinasses Using Silica Gel Adsorbents Functionalized with Thiol Moieties: Equilibrium and Kinetics Studies

open access: yesMolecules
Tequila vinasses are organic wastes generated during ethanol fermentation at elevated temperatures (≥90 °C) and pH ≤ 4.0, making them hazardous to the environment.

Energy distribution function based universal adsorption isotherm model for all types of isotherm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Based upon the adsorbate-adsorbent interactions due to pore size distribution and surface heterogeneity, as characterized by the adsorption isotherms, the adsorption phenomenon has many industrial and environmental applications.

Raman Spectroscopic Identification of Oxide Phases in a Corroded MgO–Steel Composite Anode Used in Aluminum Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐Raman spectroscopy is applied to characterize corrosion products in a recycled‐based MgO–316L steel composite anode after molten salt electrolysis. A depth‐dependent Fe–O/Fe–Al–O layer sequence of magnetite, hercynite, and an Al‐doped magnetite transition zone is identified.

Assessment of Miscanthus × giganteus derived biochar as copper and zinc adsorbent:study of the effect of pyrolysis temperature, pH and hydrogen peroxide modification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this work, experimental and modelling investigations were conducted on biochars pyrolyzed at 350 °C and 600 °C, to determine the effect of pyrolysis temperature, hydrogen peroxide activation and pH on copper and zinc removal, in comparison with ...

Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma Deoxidation of Natively Oxide Layer of Copper Powders in a Fluidized Bed

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a novel approach to reducing oxide layers on metal powders using low‐temperature hydrogen dielectric barrier discharge plasmas at atmospheric pressure. Unlike conventional hydrogen‐plasma reductions, the powders do not contact the plasma directly.

Separation of CH4/H2/CO2 Gas Mixtures Using Spherical Pellets of Deposited Zeolites on Monmorillonite [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering
Gas purification is necessary for many industrial processes, and the using of zeolite adsorbents is one of the low-cost methods in this field. The aim of this work is to synthesize three types of zeolite/quasi-zeolite through hydrothermal technique and ...
