Electrolyte adsorption on heterogeneous surfaces: adsorption models

Several heterogeneous electrolyte adsorption models are derived. The underlying assumptions for these models and their applicability are discussed. It is shown that the pristine point of zero charge (PPZC) may well be a function of the degree of surface heterogeneity.

The adsorption of catalase on calcium hydroxyapatite is reported in this study. In all the solutions investigated, catalase adsorption takes place under conditions where the adsorbent and the adorbate are both negatively charged and is accompanied by the release of phosphate ions. Adsorption on a random configuration of adsorptive heterogeneities
