Selectivity adsorption of sulfate by amino-modified activated carbon during capacitive deionization

open access: yes, 2021
Capacitive deionization (CDI) is an environmentally friendly desalination technique with low energy consumption. However, unmodified carbon electrode materials have poor sulfate selectivity and adsorption capacity.

Ortho-selectivity in aluminophosphate molecular sieves: A molecular simulation study

open access: yes, 2015
Monte Carlo adsorption simulations of xylenes have been performed in aluminophosphate molecular sieve structures. A new force field fitted for o-xylene in AlPO4-5 was used.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

Utilizing molecular simulation, ideal adsorbed solution theory and ensemble learning algorithms to investigate adsorption and separation of sulfides on amorphous nanoporous materials

open access: yesNext Materials
Using grand canonical Monte Carlo method, we investigated the adsorption of pure H2S and SO2 gases on amorphous materials, and the separation of CH4-H2S and CO2-SO2 mixtures. At 303 K, the optimal adsorbent for both gases was found to be HCP-Colina-id016,

Behaviour of heavy metals in soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
Fractions of Zn, Cd, Cu, Pb, Fe and Mn extractable with water, a salt solution and dilute acid, and residual fractions were determined in soils with raised contents of heavy metals, near zinc smelters, along a river formerly discharging heavy metals, and

Fluorination: A strategy to tune the interactions of molecules and nanoscale systems with biological matter

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This minireview explores fluorination as a key strategy to optimize therapeutic molecules and nanocarriers. By incorporating different fluorinated motifs—from single atoms to linear and branched chains—drug delivery, cellular uptake, and colloidal stability can be improved and fine‐tuned.
