Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Prevalence of adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in patients of alcohol dependence syndrome: A cross-sectional study

open access: yesIndustrial Psychiatry Journal
Background: Alcohol use disorders (AUDs) are among the most common comorbid psychiatric disorders in patients with adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and adult ADHD is an independent risk factor for developing AUD.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Regional analysis of UK primary care prescribing and adult service referrals for young people with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder

open access: yesBJPsych Open, 2020
BackgroundApproximately 20% of children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) experience clinical levels of impairment into adulthood. In the UK, there is a sharp reduction in ADHD drug prescribing over the period of transition from child ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Establishing US norms for the Adult ADHD Self‐Report Scale (ASRS‐v1.1) and characterising symptom burden among adults with self‐reported ADHD

open access: yesInternational journal of clinical practice, 2018
To estimate Adult ADHD Self‐Report Scale (ASRS‐v1.1) Symptom Checklist normative total scores among the US adult general population and to evaluate overall attention‐deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptom burden among US adults with ADHD.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
