Genetic association at the 9p21 glaucoma locus contributes to sex bias in normal-tension glaucoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Purpose: Many genome-wide association studies have identified common single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) at the 9p21 glaucoma locus (CDKN2B/CDKN2B-AS1) to be significantly associated with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), with association being ...

Prognostic importance of endothelin-1 and endothelin receptor: a plasma levels in the early perimetric stage of primary open-angle glaucoma

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2018
An increasing amount of data suggests a role of the eye vascular system and oxidative stress in glaucoma pathogenesis. Reports have suggested endothelin-1 (ET-1) and its receptor (ETR-A) as possible glaucoma biomarkers. This study explored the diagnostic

Reproducibility of retinal nerve fiber layer measurements across the glaucoma spectrum using optical coherence tomography

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2015
Purpose: The purpose was to determine intra-session and inter-session reproducibility of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness measurements with the spectral-domain Cirrus optical coherence tomography (OCT) ® (SD-OCT) in normal and glaucomatous eyes,

To compare and correlate visual field changes detected by perimetry with retinal nerve fiber layer and ganglion cell layer thickness observed using spectral domain optical coherence tomography in primary open angle glaucoma

open access: yesTNOA Journal of Ophthalmic Science and Research, 2021
Aim: To evaluate the damage pattern of retinal ganglion cells at different stages of glaucoma in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) by observing peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and macular ganglion cell layer-inner plexiform ...

Precise Control of Drug Release in Machine Learning‐Designed Antibody‐Eluting Implants for Postoperative Scarring Inhibition in Glaucoma

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We developed a micro‐sized, biocompatible implant for postoperative sustained delivery of anti‐fibrotic antibodies in glaucoma surgery. Machine learning‐guided optimization of polymer composition, implant geometry, and porosity enabled precise control of drug release.

Photothermal Transport for Guiding Nanoparticles Through the Vitreous Humor

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanosecond laser irradiation of the clinically approved dye indocyanine green (ICG) enables light‐guided nanoparticle transport within the vitreous humor. The combined use of ICG and pulsed laser illumination induces localized convection and thermophoresis, directing particles toward illuminated regions.

Plasma endothelin-1 and endothelin-A receptor concentrations in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2017
Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is a potent vasoconstrictor and is considered to have a key role in the regulation of ocular perfusion and glaucoma pathogenesis. High ET-1 and ETA-receptor levels are reported in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).
