New Advanced High Strength Steels

2023
In recent years, significant developments have been made to increase the mechanical strength of steels in order to reduce the overall weight of structures, particularly in motor vehicles. Depending on the application, the increase in strength should not be at the expense of forming and in-use properties.

Formability of advanced high strength steels

International Journal of Material Forming, 2009
Novel draw-bend tests of 3 dual-phase (DP) steels utilizing velocity control of both actuators revealed three patterns of failure depending on draw speed, draw speed ratio, and R/t ratio. Shear failure occurs preferentially for smaller R/t and higher deformation rates.

Trimming of Advanced High Strength Steels

Manufacturing Engineering and Materials Handling, Parts A and B, 2005
Modern product design and manufacturing often utilizes a wide variety of materials. Where once low carbon steel predominated, a variety of different materials such as aluminum alloys and advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) are now being utilized. Although such alternative materials may provide a variety of benefits in manufacturing and design, these ...

Advanced High-Strength Steels

2013
Abstract This chapter provides an overview of the nomenclature, generations, and thermomechanical processing of advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) and provides information on the development of microstructure. It also presents a review of the mechanical property trends of AHSS.

Advanced High-Strength Steels

2020
This chapter is concerned with the advanced high-strength steels (AHSS). The focus is on AHSS of second generation—the high-alloy austenitic steels with twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) and transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP). For both groups, the state-of-the-art knowledge regarding the thermodynamic aspects, the deformation behaviour and the ...

1.2GPa Advanced High Strength Steel with High Formability

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2014
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">To reduce the Body in White (BIW) mass, it is necessary to expand the application of Advanced High-Strength Steels (AHSS) to complex shaped parts. In order to apply AHSS to complex shaped parts with thinner gauge, high formability steel is required.

Adiabatic blanking of advanced high-strength steels

CIRP Annals, 2020
Abstract Adiabatic blanking of advanced high-strength steels with initial flow stresses above 1300 MPa is investigated. The blanked edge exhibits a unique S-shape. Localisation and properties of shear bands are analysed in shear-compression tests. A shear-compression stress state before separation leads to blanked edges without fracture zone, burr ...

Shear Fracture of Advanced High Strength Steels

Journal of Iron and Steel Research International, 2014
Failure experiments were carried out through a stretch-bending test system for advanced high strength steels, i. e. dual-phase (DP) steels and martensitic steels (MS). The die radius in this system was designed from 1 to 15 mm to investigate the failure mode under different geometries. Two failure modes were observed during the experiments. As a result,
