Strength through diversity: how cancers thrive when clones cooperate

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumor heterogeneity can offer direct benefits to the tumor through cooperation between different clones. In this review, Kuiken et al. discuss existing evidence for clonal cooperativity to identify overarching principles, and highlight how novel technological developments could address remaining open questions.

Photocatalytic oxidation of methyl tert-butyl ether in presence of various phase compositions of TiO2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether) represents a rising threat to the environment, especially drinking water, and its effective removal (with all by-products) is necessary.

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

A Review of Methods for the Removal of Endocrine-Disrupting Compounds with a Focus on Oestrogens and Pharmaceuticals Found in Wastewater

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Steroid hormones are micropollutants that contaminate water worldwide and have significant impacts on human health and the environment, even at very low concentrations.

Use of advanced Fenton and Fenton-like oxidation methods to treat wastewater containing Spiramycin antibiotic

open access: yesسلامت و محیط, 2021
Background and Objective: Antibiotics are hardly decomposable and resistant contaminants in the environment that according to their anti-biological properties, it is necessary to eliminate or reduce the amount of them before entering the environment ...

Comparative performance of catalytic Fenton oxidation with zero-valent iron (Fe(0)) in comparison with ferrous sulphate for the removal of micropollutants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This research aims to depict the comparative performance of micropollutants’ removal by FeSO4- and zero-valent iron (Fe(0))-catalytic Fenton oxidation and to explore the possibilities of minimising the sludge production from the process.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

The Degradation of Furfural from Petroleum Refinery Wastewater Employing a Packed Bubble Column Reactor Using O3 and a CuO Nanocatalyst

open access: yesReactions
Furfural is one of the main pollutant materials in petroleum refinery wastewater. This work used an ozonized bubble column reactor to remove furfural from wastewater. The reactor applied two shapes of packing materials and two dosages of CuO nanocatalyst

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...
