Adventitious Roots and Secondary Metabolism

Chinese Journal of Biotechnology, 2008
Plants are a rich source of valuable secondary metabolites and in the recent years plant cell, tissue and organ cultures have been developed as an important alternative sources for the production of these compounds. Adventitious roots have been successfully induced in many plant species and cultured for the production of high value secondary ...

Adventitious Roots and Lateral Roots: Similarities and Differences

Annual Review of Plant Biology, 2014
In addition to its role in water and nutrient uptake, the root system is fundamentally important because it anchors a plant to its substrate. Although a wide variety of root systems exist across different species, all plants have a primary root (derived from an embryonic radicle) and different types of lateral roots.

Adventitious lateral rooting: the plasticity of root system architecture

Physiologia Plantarum, 2018
Root formation under natural conditions is plastic in response to multiple signals. Recent studies suggested that theWUSCHEL‐RELATED HOMEOBOX11(WOX11)‐mediated adventitious root formation pathway can occur in the primary root (PR) inArabidopsis thaliana, resulting in the production of a specific type of lateral roots (LRs) in response to wounding or ...

Sugar-induced adventitious roots in Arabidopsis seedlings

Journal of Plant Research, 2003
The effects of sugars on root growth and on development of adventitious roots were analyzed in Arabidopsis thaliana. Seeds were sown on agar plates containing 0.0-5.0% sugars and placed vertically in darkness (DD) or under long day (LD, 16 h:8 h) conditions, so that the seedlings were constantly attached to the agar medium.

Researching the controls of adventitious rooting

Physiologia Plantarum, 1992
Cloning is crucial in horticulture and forestry for commercial production of plants and in genetic improvement programs. However, inability to induce adventitious root formation (rooting) often limits cloning of woody plants by cuttage or tissue culture.

A methane–cGMP module positively influences adventitious rooting

Plant Cell Reports, 2023
Endogenous cGMP operates downstream of CH4 control of adventitious rooting, following by the regulation in the expression of cell cycle regulatory and auxin signaling-related genes. Methane (CH4) is a natural product from plants and microorganisms. Although exogenously applied CH4 and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) are separately confirmed to be

Fulvic acid and adventitious root formation

Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 1971
Abstract Root initiation was observed in 5-cm hypocotyl segments of beans after treatment with aqueous solutions (pH 6–7) of a soil fulvic acid and plant growth regulators. In most instances the effects were additive; although some synergism was detected with 3-indoleacetic acid and with 1-naphthaleneacetic acid, some results with 2,4 ...

BRANCHING PATTERN IN ONION ADVENTITIOUS ROOTS

American Journal of Botany, 1988
The pattern of topographic distribution of lateral roots (LRs) along the adventitious root of Allium cepa L. was studied in relation to the adventitious root vascular system. In the onion LRs arise in vertical files opposite the protoxylem poles, thus forming protoxylem‐based ranks of LRs along the mother root.

Adventitious Root Development in Dicotyledons

The plant's root system is comprised of primary, lateral, and adventitious roots (ARs). Lateral roots emerge exclusively from existing roots, whereas ARs originate from stem or leaf-derived cells. The progression of adventitious root development is a natural part of a plant's growth, commonly observed in most monocotyledonous species where they ...

Adventitious Shoots on Saltcedar Roots

Botanical Gazette, 1966
Saltcedar (Tamarix pentandra Pall.) roots, characterized by polyarch primary xylem, produced adventitious shoots that originated endogenously near the vascular cambium. Root cuttings, buried vertically and horizontally on a mist-bed, produced adventitious shoots at rates of 21% and 8 ...
