The BPgWSP test: a Bayesian Weibull Shape Parameter signal detection test for adverse drug reactions [PDF]
We develop a Bayesian Power generalized Weibull shape parameter (PgWSP) test as statistical method for signal detection of possible drug-adverse event associations using electronic health records for pharmacovigilance. The Bayesian approach allows the incorporation of prior knowledge about the likely time of occurrence along time-to-event data.

Feature selection in detection of adverse drug reactions from the Health Improvement Network (THIN) database [PDF]
Adverse drug reaction (ADR) is widely concerned for public health issue. ADRs are one of most common causes to withdraw some drugs from market. Prescription event monitoring (PEM) is an important approach to detect the adverse drug reactions. The main problem to deal with this method is how to automatically extract the medical events or side effects ...

Methods for working with problem residents in medical physics residency education
Abstract Medical physics residency training programs may occasionally encounter residents requiring additional intervention beyond normal training efforts. In the literature, these residents are referred to as “problem” residents. While the physician literature on the subject is valuable, this paper specifically focuses on dealing with a problem ...

Detecting adverse high-order drug interactions from individual case safety reports using computational statistics on disproportionality measures [PDF]
Adverse drug interactions are a critical concern in pharmacovigilance, as both clinical trials and spontaneous reporting systems often lack the breadth to detect complex drug interactions. This study introduces a computational framework for adverse drug interaction detection, leveraging disproportionality analysis on individual case safety reports.

Abstract Purpose Breast cancer is a neoplastic disease with high prevalence among women. Radiotherapy is one of the principal treatment modalities for this disease, but it poses significant challenges. This study aimed to compare and evaluate the technical and dosimetric performance of conventional C‐arm linac systems and a new design, Halcyon, in the ...

Extreme Events: Mechanisms and Prediction [PDF]
Extreme events, such as rogue waves, earthquakes and stock market crashes, occur spontaneously in many dynamical systems. Because of their usually adverse consequences, quantification, prediction and mitigation of extreme events are highly desirable. Here, we review several aspects of extreme events in phenomena described by high-dimensional, chaotic ...
