New Pyridobenothiazolone Derivatives Display Nanomolar Pan‐Serotype Anti‐Dengue Virus Activity

open access: yesChemMedChem, EarlyView.
A ligand‐based strategy is employed, starting from hit compound 2, to develop the C‐2 modified pyridobenzothiazolone 19 as a pan‐serotype nanomolar DENV‐1‐4 inhibitor. Investigations of the mechanism reveal the peculiar ability to abolish the infectivity of virions in a second infection.

Development of a confinable gene drive system in the human disease vector Aedes aegypti

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2019
Aedes aegypti, the principal mosquito vector for many arboviruses that causes yellow fever, dengue, Zika, and chikungunya, increasingly infects millions of people every year. With an escalating burden of infections and the relative failure of traditional

Powerful yet challenging: mechanistic niche models for predicting invasive species potential distribution under climate change

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Risk assessments of invasive species present one of the most challenging applications of species distribution models (SDMs) due to the fundamental issues of distributional disequilibrium, niche changes, and truncation. Invasive species often occupy only a fraction of their potential environmental and geographic ranges, as their spatiotemporal dynamics ...

Transgenic Aedes aegypti Mosquitoes Transfer Genes into a Natural Population

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
In an attempt to control the mosquito-borne diseases yellow fever, dengue, chikungunya, and Zika fevers, a strain of transgenically modified Aedes aegypti mosquitoes containing a dominant lethal gene has been developed by a commercial company, Oxitec Ltd.

Influence of blood meal on the responsiveness of olfactory receptor neurons in antennal sensilla trichodea of the yellow fever mosquito, Aedes aegypti [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In female Aedes aegypti L. mosquitoes, a blood meal induces physiological and behavioral changes. Previous studies have shown that olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs) housed in grooved peg sensilla on the antennae of Ae.

Pyriproxyfen Disrupts the Ongoing Spermatogenesis Wave in Danio rerio Potentially Mediated by Voltage‐Dependent Calcium Channels and Protein Kinase C

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pyriproxyfen (PPX) is an analog of the juvenile hormone from insects. Following our previous studies, for the ex vivo short‐term effect, we chose 10−9 M pyriproxyfen to analyze the morphology of spermatogenesis wave cells. In silico docking and ADMET (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, Toxicity) studies were carried out to ...

EFFECTIVENESS TEST OF OIL PALM LEAF EXTRACT (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) AS A MOSQUITO BIOLARVACIDE Aedes aegypti

open access: yesJurnal Farmasi Sains dan Praktis
Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a disease that is transmitted by female mosquito species Aedes aegypti which has spread all over the world. Efforts to control the Aedes aegypti mosquito vector by using natural biolarvicides using oil palm leaf extract.

Loss of cytoplasmic incompatibility in Wolbachia-infected Aedes aegypti under field conditions

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2019
Wolbachia bacteria are now being introduced into Aedes aegypti mosquito populations for dengue control. When Wolbachia infections are at a high frequency, they influence the local transmission of dengue by direct virus blocking as well as deleterious ...

Dispersal of _Aedes aegypti_: field study in temperate areas and statistical approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We studied the dispersion of _Aedes aegypti_ during egg laying in natural conditions. Two independent experiments involving mosquitoes dispersing from urbanization towards adjacent un-urbanized areas were carried out and analyzed in statistical terms. We

Arboviruses and the challenge to establish systemic and persistent infections in competent mosquito vectors : the interaction with the RNAi mechanism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Arboviruses are capable to establish long-term persistent infections in mosquitoes that do not affect significantly the physiology of the insect vectors. Arbovirus infections are controlled by the RNAi machinery via the production of viral siRNAs and the
