Gain-assisted harmonic generation in near-zero permittivity metamaterials made of plasmonic nanoshells

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2012
We investigate enhanced harmonic generation processes in gain-assisted, near-zero permittivity metamaterials composed of spherical plasmonic nanoshells. We report the presence of narrow-band features in transmission, reflection and absorption induced by ...

Deciphering the Role of LiClO4 Salt on Electrochemical Properties of Plasticized Biopolymer Electrolytes for Superior EDLC Efficiency at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, Volume 8, Issue 5, September 2025.
A new plasticized NaCMC/PEO/LiClO4‐based electrolyte was prepared using the solution‐casting method. This electrolyte demonstrated exceptional electrochemical properties, including enhanced ionic conductivity and a widened electrochemical stability window.

Autonomous assembly of synthetic oligonucleotides built from an expanded DNA alphabet. Total synthesis of a gene encoding kanamycin resistance

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2014
Background: Many synthetic biologists seek to increase the degree of autonomy in the assembly of long DNA (L-DNA) constructs from short synthetic DNA fragments, which are today quite inexpensive because of automated solid-phase synthesis.

Religious uses shape the selection and distribution of Chinese Buddhist tree species

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 9, Page 2094-2105, September 2025.
Abstract As a widely disseminated world religion, Buddhism's selection of religious species may profoundly impact candidate species distribution. This study sampled 246 Chinese temples covering diverse regions to investigate the selection modes of Buddhist tree species (BTS) and the alien religion's influence on Chinese indigenous biodiversity and ...

Experiments with low-energy antimatter

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2015
Investigations on antimatter allow us to shed light on fundamental issues of contemporary physics. The only antiatom presently available, antihydrogen, is produced making use of the Antiproton Decelerator (AD) facility at CERN.

Planting and replanting: Continuity and change over four decades of forest restoration in Himachal Pradesh, India

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 7, Issue 5, Page 1372-1387, September 2025.
India has a long history of planting trees to restore ecosystem services providing an opportunity to evaluate long‐term ecosystem restoration processes. We show that these programs have shifted over time in response to public demands as well as through changes in the government's vision for forests.
