Protein tandem repeats that produce frameshifts can generate new structural states and functions

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
We explored an alternative protein structure landscape by analyzing amino acid sequences from frameshifted tandem repeats—regions prone to frameshifts. These frameshifts, especially in short repeats, lead to more drastic changes than in non‐repetitive regions, often altering structure, function, localization, and potentially contributing to disease ...

PREAMBULAR HISTORY: THE VIEW OF THE PAST IN KEY HUMAN RIGHTS INSTRUMENTS

open access: yesHistory and Theory, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article claims that the preambles of foundational human rights instruments, taken together, articulate a consistent view of the past. This view is firmly rooted in historical processes, embedded in metaphysical truths, and enacted in service of the future. Part 1 assesses the strengths and weaknesses of the “preambular approach to history”

Bee community and trait‐based responses to fire in a Mediterranean landscape

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
Fire drives a short‐term increase in bee abundance and diversity, despite its strong negative impact on floral resources. Acting as an environmental filter, fire shapes bee communities as increased post‐fire fine‐scale heterogeneity favors bees with specific functional traits such as ground‐nesting and generalist species.

Consumer Mobility, Offline and Online Regional Trade: Evidence From High‐Frequency Transaction Data

open access: yesInternational Economic Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The shift from offline to online purchasing is reshaping trade patterns: a weaker effect of distance has been observed in digital transactions. This study analyzes these dynamics at an unprecedented scale and granularity, using interregional gravity models estimated from billions of geolocated French card transactions.

AEgIS experiment commissioning at CERN [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2013
The AEgIS Experiment is an international collaboration based at CERN whose aim is to perform the first direct measurement of the gravitational acceleration g of antihydrogen in the gravitational field of the Earth. Cold antihydrogen will be produced with a pulsed charge exchange reaction in a cylindrical Penning trap where antiprotons will be cooled to

FinTechs Playing in the Regulatory Sandbox—The Effect of Interacting Signals on Funding

open access: yesInformation Systems Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Membership in regulatory sandboxes seems to help financial technology ventures (FinTechs) signal their qualities to investors. However, FinTechs have a dual identity, meaning they are both banking firms and entrepreneurial, growth‐oriented ventures, and thus likely send various and potentially conflicting signals.
