The Anatomy of a Dust Emitting Hot Spot: The White Sands Playa‐Aeolian System, New Mexico, USA

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract The White Sands aeolian system is a hot spot of dust emissions and has likely been a persistent dust source since the early to mid‐Holocene, when arid conditions promoted the desiccation and erosion of Pleistocene Lake Otero and the formation of the dune field.

Relating Monthly to Yearly Morphological Changes in Embryonic Coastal Dune Systems

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Embryonic coastal dunes are dynamic morphological features shaped by wind, waves, sediment availability, and vegetation. Temporal variability in these drivers controls embryo dune dynamics at short timescales (hours–days), while accreting dune systems often show gradual change over longer timescales (years–decades).

Subsurface Hydrocarbon Biodegradation in the Context of Microbial Habitability and Hydrogeologic, Thermal, and Geologic Evolution of the Colorado Plateau

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Subsurface microbial ecosystems associated with hydrocarbon reservoirs are shaped by temperature, salinity, redox gradients, and fluid flow. However, the drivers of microbial activity and hydrocarbon biodegradation over geologic timescales remain poorly constrained.

Sea Surface Conditions and Antarctic Bottom Water Formation Offshore Cape Darnley, East Antarctica, Over the Last 600 ka: New Insights From the Diatom Record

open access: yesPaleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, Volume 41, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract The Cape Darnley marine region of East Antarctica is one of only four sectors where Antarctic Bottom Water (AABW) is produced. AABW formation at Cape Darnley is highly dependent on surface ocean processes—specifically, the high production of frazil ice. Here, we investigated the sea surface conditions at Cape Darnley over the past 600 thousand

Magma Channeling and Crustal Structure of a STEP Fault From Integrated Geological and Geophysical Data: The Central Aeolian Volcanoes (Southern Tyrrhenian Sea)

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 45, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Arc volcanism is commonly interpreted as the surface expression of subduction‐related magmatism and its spatial organization is often controlled by lithospheric structures. In arc‐back‐arc systems, slab retreat may promote the transition from compression to extension and the development of Subduction‐Transform Edge Propagator (STEP) faults ...
