Mercury cycling during the last glacial period in Arctic Lake El'gygytgyn, NE Russia

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tectonic processes play a key role in the global mercury (Hg) cycle on geological timescales, by mobilising Hg from deep Earth reservoirs to the surface. These natural fluxes also introduce a dynamic component to the terrestrial Hg cycle that can interact with other environmental signals and influence Hg delivery to sedimentary records.

Environmental Impact of Silicic Magmatism in Large Igneous Province Events

open access: yesGeophysical Monograph Series, Page 133-151., 2021

Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact

An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.

Carbon isotope geochemistry of organic matter in volcanic paleosols constrains paleo‐environmental variations

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Fiorano quarry paleosol developed within the Colli Albani volcanic district (Italy) in the time interval bracketed by the deposition of the Pozzolanelle pyroclastic‐flow unit (365 ± 4 ka) and the emplacement of the Capo di Bove lava flow (277 ± 2 ka).

Provenance fluctuations of aeolian deposits on the Chinese Loess Plateausince the Miocene

open access: yes, 2015
The evolution of the provenance of aeolian deposits on the Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) is closely linked to changes in source aridity and dust transport dynamics. Although previous studies have revealed that the provenance of Chinese aeolian deposits may

Review of the Salpausselkä ice‐marginal formations in Finland

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Extensive Salpausselkä ice‐marginal formations were deposited in southern and eastern Finland during the Weichselian deglaciation. These comprise three major ridges (I, II, and III Salpausselkäs) and their eastern counterparts (Tuupovaara, Koitere, and Pielisjärvi), together forming laterally continuous ice‐marginal formations extending ...

Climate‐modulated accumulation and erosion of sediments in the Rodderberg crater basin for the last 439 ka (East Eifel Volcanic Field, Germany)

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Glacial/interglacial climate cycles since marine isotope stage (MIS) 12 influenced the discontinuous and 73 m‐long sediment record from the volcanic crater of Rodderberg in the East Eifel Volcanic Field, Germany. High‐resolution grain size and geochemical data have been valued by numerical dating techniques (radiocarbon and luminescence dating,

Aeolian Material Migration in Transbaikalia (Asian Russia)

open access: yesGeosciences, 2019
We revealed regional features of functioning of a large Transbaikalian aeolian morphodynamic system. Natural pre-conditions, current realities and factors of development of aeolian processes are investigated.

Diverse sources of aeolian sediment revealed in an arid landscape in southeastern Iran using a modified Bayesian un-mixing model

open access: yes, 2019
Identifying and quantifying source contributions of aeolian sediment is critical to mitigate local and regional effects of wind erosion in the arid and semi-arid regions of the world.

Salt‐induced nutritional and metabolic shifts in halophytes: implications for food security

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Plant species vary in their response to salinity: some crops show a degree of salt tolerance, while halophytes – whether wild or cultivated – are characterized by a high capacity to thrive under saline conditions. Halophytes are considered a source of valuable secondary metabolites with potential economic value, yet they might also produce ...

From Xanadu Around and Back: A ca. 11,000 km Journey of Windblown Sand Revealed by Global Dune Patterns on Titan

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Extensive dune fields nearly encircle the equatorial regions of Titan, Saturn's largest moon. Dunes evolve in response to environmental change, offering a record of recent geologic and climate history.
