Environmental radioactivity at Stromboli (Aeolian Islands)

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2002
HPGe gamma spectrometry, thermoluminescence dosimetry, X-ray diffractometry and fluorescence techniques have been used to analyze the natural radionuclides content of soil and rock samples, air kerma and geochemical features on the island of Stromboli, belonging to the Aeolian Islands, in the Mediterranean Sea.

Deep CO2 release revealed by stable isotope and diffuse degassing surveys at Vulcano (Aeolian Islands) in 2015–2018

, 2020
The partitioning of carbon dioxide (CO2) released by soils at Vulcano Island (Aeolian Islands, Italy) was performed by combining the CO2 flux and the carbon isotope measurements.

The role of ceramic analyses in shaping our understanding of the cultural landscapes of protohistoric Sicily and the Aeolian islands

Journal of Archaeological Science: Reports, 2020
This paper reviews the materials primarily studied by the two authors in the attempt to reconstruct the Bronze Age cultural landscape of northern, central and eastern Sicily and the Aeolian islands from the perspective of ceramic production.

Low-frequency events at Vulcano, Aeolian Islands, Italy

Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, 1991
Abstract Data from a digital, three-component seismic array, in operation during summer 1987 and 1988 at Vulcano (Aeolian Islands, southern Tyrrhenian Sea, Italy), allow us to put experimental constraints on the seismic source of the shallower events connected to volcanic activity in the region.

Role of magma mixing in the pre-eruptive dynamics of the Aeolian Islands volcanoes (Southern Tyrrhenian Sea, Italy)

Lithos, 2019
We combined literature and experimental data to determine the role of magma mixing in the pre-eruptive dynamics of the Aeolian Islands volcanoes. As a first step, we systematically reviewed the evidence supporting the hypothesis of mixing-triggered ...

Seismic events under vulcano, Aeolian Islands, Italy

Bulletin Volcanologique, 1981
This paper describes the seismic activity of Vulcano - an active volcano of the Aeolian Islands group - from 1977 to 1980. Two main swarms of low energy seismic events are recognizable on the basis of the entire set of data. The events, localized very near the crater of Vulcano where a fumarole field is present, have been classified into two classes:i)

RARE SULFOSALTS FROM VULCANO, AEOLIAN ISLANDS, ITALY. IV. LILLIANITE

The Canadian Mineralogist, 2001
Excellent samples of lillianite, a rare Pb–Bi sulfosalt, have been found around a high-temperature fumarole at the La Fossa crater, Vulcano Island, Italy. The mineral is associated with cannizzarite and, subordinately, with galenobismutite and rarer sulfosalts, as well as sphalerite and selenian galena.

“If you want to get married, you have to collect virdura”: the vanishing custom of gathering and cooking wild food plants on Vulcano, Aeolian Islands, Sicily

Food, Culture, and Society: an international journal of multidisciplinary research, 2018
Despite the comprehensive bio-scientific literature regarding the Mediterranean Diet, in-depth ethnographic studies focusing on wild-food-plant-based folk cuisines are still scarce in Mediterranean coastal areas.

A land gravity survey of the Aeolian islands

Bulletin Volcanologique, 1973
A land gravity survey of the Aeolian volcanic arc, including 235 measurament points, has shown the occurrence of Bouguer gravity lows related to each island, except Panarea.
