Uniform Region of Self‐Aerated Flow

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 1983
The measurement of air concentration and velocity obtained in the laboratory are compared with the recent prototype measurement obtained on Aviemore spillway. This comparison suggests that if a characteristic depth such as the depth at which the air concentration is 0.9 chosen then the averaged air concentration over this depth is only a function of ...

Powder Flow from an Aerated Hopper

1980
Theory and experiments are described for gravity flow of non-cohesive powder from a partially aerated hopper formed by two smooth sloping plates, each with a porous section for aeration at the exit. Equations describing the motion of the particles and of the interstitial air give the velocity of each phase, particle stress, air pressure and particle ...

Self-aeration of open channel flow

Power Technology and Engineering, 2012
It is suggested that the cause of self-aeration in open-channel flow occurs when the turbulent normal stress exceeds the gravimetric pressure. A criterion for the start of self-aeration is established on this basis. A computational four-layer model of an aerated flow is proposed.

Uniform Aerated Chute Flow

1992
The author provided interesting simple correlations on uniform aerated flows. The writer would like to add some information on the average air concentration and to discuss specific points concerning the bottom air concentration and the mixture flow depth.

Self-Aerated Flows On Chutes and Spillways - Closure

1994
The writer thanks the discusser (ANWAR 1994) for his interesting comments and information. The writer wishes to clarify three points : free-surface instabilities, calculations of the inception point of air entrainment and analogy between self-aerated flows and sediment-laden flows.
