COCOA: tracking in aerial imagery

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are becoming a core intelligence asset for reconnaissance, surveillance and target tracking in urban and battlefield settings. In order to achieve the goal of automated tracking of objects in UAV videos we have developed a system called COCOA. It processes the video stream through number of stages.

Vehicle detection from aerial imagery

2011 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2011
Vehicle detection from aerial images is becoming an increasingly important research topic in surveillance, traffic monitoring and military applications. The system described in this paper focuses on vehicle detection in rural environments and its applications to oil and gas pipeline threat detection.

Road detection from aerial imagery

2012 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2012
We present a fast, robust road detection algorithm for aerial images taken from an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. A histogram-based adaptive threshold algorithm is used to detect possible road regions in an image. A probabilistic hough transform based line segment detection combined with a clustering method is implemented to further extract the road.

Aerial photography and satellite imagery

1985
Aerial photographs and satellite imagery are important weapons in the armoury of the modern biologist and geographer. Four types of film are used: panchromatic black and white; infra-red black and white; colour yielding approximately ‘true’ colours; and colour infra-red (CIR), one type of which is often called ‘false colour’.
