Characterization of Aerodynamic and Aeroacoustic Performance of Bladeless Fans

open access: yes, 2019
Bladeless fans are well known for their unique shape and efficient performance, which have a great impact on the fan industry. At present, there are few studies on the bladeless fan and the research on the improvement of fan design is a lack. Therefore, the study on the performance of the bladeless fan with different design is the main purpose of this ...

Aeroacoustic Performance of Fractal Spoilers

AIAA Journal, 2012
One of the major environmental problems facing the aviation industry is that of aircraft noise. The work presented in this paper, done as part of the EU’s OPENAIR Project, looks at reducing spoiler noise whilst maintaining lift and drag characteristics through means of large-scale fractal porosity.

Aeroacoustic Performance of an Airfoil with Circulation Control

16th AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference, 2010
Aerodynamic noise originating from slotted slats represents the major component of high-lift related airframe noise. Therefore slatless high-lift systems are considered effective means to reduce airframe noise. The major challenge within the design of such systems is to compensate the deficit in maximum lift performance for slatless wings, and the ...

Aerodynamic and Aeroacoustic Performance of a Skewed Rotor

Volume 6: Turbo Expo 2003, Parts A and B, 2003
This paper presents an experimental investigation and numerical simulation of the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic performance of an axial-flow fan with skewed rotating blades in the design and off-design operation. The blade is designed with a forward skew angle for which the stacking line is directed towards the rotating direction on the circumferential ...

Contrasting Code Performances for Computational Aeroacoustics of Jets

12th AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference (27th AIAA Aeroacoustics Conference), 2006
The numerical propagation of subcritical Tollmein-Schlichting (T-S), inviscid vortical and cut-on acoustic waves is explored. For the former case, the performances of the very different NEAT, NTS, HYDRA, FLUXp and OSMIS3D codes is studied. A modest/coarse hexahedral computational grid that starkly shows differences between the different codes and ...

Aeroacoustics and Performance Modeling of a Counter-Rotating Propfan

Volume 7: Turbomachinery, Parts A, B, and C, 2010
This paper presents a method for design and analysis of counter-rotating propfans with respect to performance and aeroacoustics. The preliminary design method generates the ideal optimum propeller design corrected for losses in terms of profile and compressibility drag.

Optimization of the Aerodynamic and Aeroacoustic Performance of an Axial-Flow Fan

AIAA Journal, 2014
A multidisciplinary optimization to simultaneously enhance the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic performance of an axial-flow fan was performed. Flow analysis through the axial-flow fan was conducted by solving three-dimensional steady and unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations with the shear-stress transport turbulence model.
