State of the Art of Low‐Frequency Acoustic Modulation: Intensity Enhancement and Directional Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 27, July 17, 2025.
High intensity low‐frequency sound sources hold significant value in many fields. However, their long wavelength, strong penetrability, and tendency to diffract make direction control and intensity enhancement challenging. Acoustic generators and metamaterial‐based acoustic devices still face issues such as low energy efficiency, poor directional ...

Aerodynamic Performance Investigation of a Biomimetic‐Based Small‐Scale Horizontal‐Axis Wind Turbine: An Experimental Analysis

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 28, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT As the demand for power increases, installing small‐scale wind turbines can be an alternative solution. However, the main challenge for their implementation is the aerodynamic noise. With a view to minimizing noise, this study focuses on the performance investigation of a small‐scale horizontal‐axis wind turbine with NACA 4412 blades inspired ...

Microcylinder and Slot Combination for Flow Separation Control Over a Wind Turbine Airfoil

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 28, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT This study explores a novel passive flow control strategy combining a microcylinder and slot configuration to mitigate flow separation over an S809 wind turbine airfoil under stall conditions at a Reynolds number of 106. Numerical simulations are conducted using the Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) approach. The primary objectives are to

Continuous Adjoint to Proudman's Formula for Aeroacoustic Shape Optimization

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, Volume 97, Issue 6, Page 966-984, June 2025.
This paper presents a cost‐efficient framework for aeroacoustic shape optimization by developing the adjoint to Proudman's formula, coupled with the steady‐state RANS equations and the k‐ ω$$ \omega $$ SST turbulence model. The aeroacoustic model and the adjoint solver are initially validated/verified with experimental data/finite differences, before ...

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Near-field Rotor Aeroacoustics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This work presents comparisons between experimental and numerical estimates of near-field rotor aeroacoustics in hover. The experiments took place at the Kazan National Research Technical University named after A. N. Tupolev (Kazan Aviation Institute).

Development and validity of type II sulcus vocalis in excised canine larynx

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Volume 11, Issue 2, Page 276-280, June 2025.
Abstract Objectives This study aims to develop a sulcus vocalis model in the excised canine larynx and to investigate the validity of the model. Methods Type II sulcus vocalis was created by continuous intradermal suture in six excised canine larynges.

The radiating part of circular sources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
An analysis is developed linking the form of the sound field from a circular source to the radial structure of the source, without recourse to far-field or other approximations.

Spatiotemporal optical vortex reconnections of loop vortices

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 14, Issue 6, Page 729-739, April 2025.
Abstract Reconnections of spatiotemporal optical vortices have been shown to occur between line vortices. Here, we show that reconnections also occur between spatiotemporal loop vortices in optical waves. As optical loop vortices propagate in a media with spatial diffraction and material group velocity dispersion, unique reconnections occur.

Reduction of fan noise bymeans of (circular) side-resonators; theory and experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
One of the main noise sources in computers are the cooling fans. An important aspect of the noise they generate is tonal noise produced at the rotational frequency of the fan, the blade passing frequency (BPF), and its higher harmonics. Previous research

An Experimental Study of the Unsteady Aerodynamics of a Static DU91‐W2‐150 Airfoil at Large Angles of Attack

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 28, Issue 3, March 2025.
ABSTRACT The airfoil DU91‐W2‐150 was investigated in the Low Speed Low Turbulence Tunnel at the Delft University of Technology to study unsteady aerodynamics. This experimental study tested the airfoil under a wide range of angles of attack (AoA) from 0° to 310° at three Reynolds numbers (Re$$ \mathit{\operatorname{Re}} $$) from 2×105$$ 2\times 1{0}^5 $
