Concomitant aerobic biodegradation of benzene and thiophene

Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1998
Abstract The concomitant aerobic biodegradation of benzene and thiophene was investigated in microcosm experiments using a groundwater enrichment culture. Benzene was biodegraded within 1 d, whereas thiophene could not be biodegraded as the sole source of carbon and energy.

Modeling Aerobic Biodegradation in the Capillary Fringe

Environmental Science & Technology, 2015
Vapor intrusion from volatile subsurface contaminants can be mitigated by aerobic biodegradation. Laboratory column studies with contaminant sources of chlorobenzene and a mixture of chlorobenzene, 1,2-dichlorobenzene, and 1,4-dichlorobenzene showed that contaminants were rapidly degraded in thin reactive zones with high biomass and low substrate ...

Biodegradability of semi-aerobic leachate

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2017
The purpose of this research is to analyse the biodegradability of leachate from Pulau Burung sanitary landfill (PBSL). PBSL is a semi-aerobic landfill which applies Fukuoka Method to reduce the amount of CH4 and enhance the stability of landfill compared to anaerobic types. This study compares two types of leachate, namely young and stabilized. In the

Aerobic Biodegradation of Acetylated Starch

Starch - Stärke, 1999
Some acetylated starch samples with degrees of substitution varying from 0.03 to 1.6 are submitted to aerobic degradation by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. The degradation is expressed by the concentration of reducing sugars evolved from the substrate, by the amylolytic activity and by the assessment of the CO 2 release resulting from the mineralization ...

Aerobic biodegradation of cellulose acetate

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1993
AbstractTwo separate assay systems were used to evaluate the biodegradation potential of cellulose acetate: anin vitroenrichment cultivation technique (closed batch system), and a system in which cellulose diacetate (CDA) films were suspended in a wastewater treatment system (open continuous feed system).

Aerobic Biodegradation of Polyhydroxybutyrate in Compost

Environmental Engineering Science, 2011
Abstract Aerobic biodegradation of polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) was investigated. Mass loss experiments were performed to determine degradation kinetics. Tributyl citrate was blended with some test samples to determine the impact of a natural plasticizer on biodegradation.

Structure–biodegradability study and computer-automated prediction of aerobic biodegradation of chemicals

Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1997
AbstractIt is shown that a combination of two programs, MultiCASE and META, can help assess the biodegradability of industrial organic materials in the ecosystem. MultiCASE is an artificial intelligence computer program that had been trained to identify molecular substructures believed to cause or inhibit biodegradation and META is an expert system ...

Biostimulation and bioaugmentation enhances aerobic biodegradation of dichloroethenes

Chemosphere, 2006
The accumulation of dichloroethenes (DCEs) as dominant products of microbial reductive dechlorination activity in soil and water represent a significant obstacle to the application of bioremediation as a remedial option for chloroethenes in many contaminated systems.

COMPUTER-AUTOMATED PREDICTIONS OF AEROBIC BIODEGRADATION OF CHEMICALS

Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1995
Abstract A computer program has been developed that can predict the most probable metabolites formed from aerobic biodegradation of chemicals. Predictions are based on an expert evaluation of the parent chemical's molecular structure. The program was designed to recognize molecular fragments within complete chemical structures that are ...

AEROBIC BIODEGRADATION OF MONOBRANCHED ALIPHATIC ALCOHOL POLYETHOXYLATES

Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 2000
Abstract Aerobic biodegradation of the 2-butyl-octyl alcohol polyethoxylate (2Bu-C8AE) was investigated under laboratory standardized conditions (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development 301E and 310B screening test protocols) to study the effect of the 2-alkyl chain length on the biodegradation mechanism of monobranched ...
