Aerobic and anaerobic methanotrophs in the Black Sea water column
Environmental Microbiology, 2006Summary Inputs of CH 4 from sediments, including methane seeps on the continental margin and methane‐rich mud volcanoes on the abyssal plain, make the Black Sea the world’s largest surface water reservoir of dissolved methane and drive a high rate of aerobic and anaerobic ...

Enrichment and Isolation of Aerobic and Anaerobic Methanotrophs
2019Methanotrophs mediate methane oxidation to produce CO2 which is facilitated by methane monooxygenase. Owing to this unique nature, methanotrophs are required in many industrial processes and have environmental applications. For this purpose, diverse aerobic proteobacterial and verrucomicrobial methanotrophs with different traits have been isolated and ...

Activity and species composition of aerobic methanotrophic communities in tundra soils
Current Microbiology, 1993The low-temperature, methane-oxidizing activities and species composition of methanotrophic communities in various tundra bog soils were investigated by radioisotopic and immunofluorescent methods. Methanotrophic bacteria carried out the methane oxidation process through all horizons of seasonally thawed layers down to permafrost.

Activity and Diversity of Aerobic Methanotrophs in Thermal Springs of the Russian Far East
New and Future Developments in Microbial Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 2019Terrestrial hot springs are heterogeneous both biogeochemically and spatially, occur in various environments, and are distributed widely over the world. Microbial species are diverse in hot springs and their ecological functions are not completely known;

Aerobic methanotrophs from the coastal thermal springs of Lake Baikal
Microbiology, 2009The number, activity, and diversity of aerobic methanotrophic bacteria in the sediments of three coastal thermal springs of Lake Baikal were analyzed. The average number of methanotrophs was 103–104 cells per 1 cm3 of sediment. The highest number of methanotrophs (108 cells/cm3 of silt) and the highest potential rate of methane uptake [7.7 nmol CH4 ...

Hazardous Waste, 2017
Methanotrophy has become a promising process for biotechnological applications. The initial goal of this study was to investigate methanotrophic denitrification as an alternative to nitrogen removal in waters that have a low organic content.

Laboratory-based aerobic denitrification using methanotrophic biomass as substrate.
2020Nitrate levels in our water resources have doubled since 20th century. This is largely due to anthropogenic activities such as overuse of nitrogen fertilizers, combustion of fossil fuels, and improper disposal of human and animal waste. Drinking water with high nitrate concentration can be highly toxic and is known to be associated with ...
