Aerodynamic Configuration Analysis of a Typical Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerator

2020
A fore-body attached inflatable ballutes were considered for the aerodynamic analysis. Detailed CFD studies for sensitivity of aerodynamic coefficients to cone angle, varying payload length and center of gravity location were carried out. Flow simulations carried out for multiple angles of attack (AoA) at different altitude conditions.

Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Gyroplane Configuration

Journal of Aircraft, 1998
We describe the wind-tunnel testing of a scale model gyroplane in the 3-m Low-Speed Wind Tunnel at the Aeronautical Research and Test Institute, Prague. These tests were conducted by the University of Glasgow as part of a U.K. Civil Aviation Authority funded research program into gyroplane airworthiness and flight safety.

Improved Aerodynamics for Configurations with Boattails

Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 2007
Aeroprediction, Incorporated undertook a review of the 2005 version of the Aeroprediction Code (AP05) when applied to configurations with boattails. It was found the code gave poor results for roll and pitch damping for configurations with long boattails (boattails greater than about 1 caliber in length).

The aerodynamics of the compound helicopter configuration

The Aeronautical Journal, 1996
AbstractA computational method has been developed to investigate the aerodynamic interaction between a helicopter rotor and the fuselage in steady-state level forward flight. In order to model a compound

Aerodynamic features of designed strake-wing configurations

14th Fluid and Plasma Dynamics Conference, 1981
Sixteen analytically and empirically designed strakes have been aerodynamically tested on a common wing-body to determine the longitudinal characteristics of the configurations. These strakes were selected, in general, due to their superior performance in a water-tunnel test.

Benefits of aerodynamic interaction to the three surface configuration

Aircraft Systems and Technology Meeting, 1979
Recent wind tunnel data for a contemporary fighter with a dose-coupled horizontal canard added are presented with emphasis on demonstrating the beneficial aerodynamic interaction of the canard with the wing, empennage, and other aircraft control surfaces.

Unsteady interactional aerodynamics of a helicopter configuration

Il Nuovo Cimento C, 2009
In this paper we present the aerodynamic simulation of a complex rotor/fuselage configuration performed with the CFD solver ROSITA (ROtorcraft Software ITAly), developed at the Aerospace Department of the Politecnico di Milano.

Aerodynamic Optimization of an UCAV Configuration

2009
Advanced aircraft design is characterized by multipoint, multidisciplinary requirements. Optimization techniques probe the aerodynamic, flight mechanical and structural design sensitivities for a balanced vehicle-system. Aircraft optimization exercises were performed in an universal optimization environment, which controls the CAD, robust mesh ...
