Structural optimization using computational aerodynamics
AIAA Journal, 2000A recently developed methodology for aircraft structural design, based on nonlinear airloads, is extended to include a modal-based optimization option and is employed with a new computational aerodynamics code for loads analysis. Nonlinear maneuver loads are evaluated by a computational scheme that efficiently combines fluid dynamics iterations with ...

Aerodynamic Optimization of an Aerial Pod
2020 Advances in Science and Engineering Technology International Conferences (ASET), 2020The incompressible, steady, turbulent flow around an external aerial pod was analyzed in order to optimize the pod's geometry for minimum drag, which is important to reduce its effect on the aircraft's performance. The computations were conducted in a 2-dimentional axisymmetric and 3-dimentional computational domains using ANSYS-Fluent k-ω SST ...

Cooling and Aerodynamics Simultaneous Optimization
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1991<div class="htmlview paragraph">Beginning from the mid-70's a clear trend emerged in car aerodynamic design and styling which dictated the lowering of the hood profile and a corresponding reduction of grill openings, while the nose surface remained dedicated to the bumper impact area and car number plate. On the other hand the increasing power of

Aerodynamic design via optimization
Journal of Aircraft, 1992An aerodynamic design optimization method is presented that generates an airfoil, producing a specified surface pressure distribution at a transonic speed. The design procedure is based on the coupled Euler and boundary-layer technology to include the rotational viscous physics which characterizes transonic flows.

UNCERTAINTY BASED ROBUST OPTIMIZATION IN AERODYNAMICS
Modern Physics Letters B, 2009The Taguchi robust design concept is combined with the multi-objective deterministic optimization method to overcome single point design problems in Aerodynamics. Starting from a statistical definition of stability, the method finds, Nash equilibrium solutions for performance and its stability simultaneously.

Perching aerodynamics and trajectory optimization
SPIE Proceedings, 2007Advances in smart materials, actuators, and control architecture have enabled new flight capabilities for aircraft. Perching is one such capability, described as a vertical landing maneuver using in-flight shape reconfiguration in lieu of high thrust generation.

Vehicle Aerodynamic Shape Optimization
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2011<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Recent advances in morphing, simulation, and optimization technologies have enabled analytically driven aerodynamic shape optimization to become a reality. This paper will discuss the integration of these technologies into a single process which enables the aerodynamicist to ...
