Continuation of modelling of perforated plate aerodynamics performance

Aerospace Science and Technology, 2002
Summary: This paper continues a physical modelling of a transpiration flow, presented in [\textit{P. P. Doerffer} and \textit{R. Bohning}, Aerosp. Sci. Technol. 4, No.~8, 525--534 (2000; Zbl 0961.76518)], by developing a system of gasdynamic equations for viscous flows in tubes of a perforated plate.

High-performance aerodynamic computations for aerospace applications

Parallel Computing, 2017
A recent study outlining a NASA vision for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) development emphasizes the importance of high-performance computing (HPC) in increasing the impact of CFD on design and certification of aerospace vehicles.Broader use of CFD in aerospace applications has been limited by its inability to accurately predict turbulent separated

Aerodynamic factors affecting performance

1997
In any precipitator the gas flow carrying the particles which have to be precipitated plays an important role. Gas volume rates between parallel connected chambers should not deviate too much from the average value used for sizing, and the gas flow distribution across the face of each individual chamber should be within certain limits.

AC75 Aerodynamic Performance Prediction via BEM [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Sailing Technology
Abstract The AC75 class, used in the America’s Cup, is a hydro-foiling racing sailing yacht powered by a double-skin main sail and a single-skin jib. The boat performance is typically predicted by a Velocity Prediction Program (VPP). The aerodynamics are usually modeled with surrogate models of data points collected

IMPROVEMENT IN AERODYNAMIC PERFORMANCE OF AIRFOILS USING AERODYNAMIC SHAPE OPTIMIZATION

JP Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer
This study demonstrates the application of the discrete adjoint method for aerodynamic shape optimization of the NACA2412 airfoil used in Cessna 172R at moderate Reynolds numbers and low Mach numbers . The open-source CFD solver OpenFOAM is coupled with DAFoam-discrete adjoint with OpenFOAM to efficiently compute the sensitivities of the drag ...

Aerodynamic Performance Prediction of a Profile in Ground Effect

Volume 2: Dynamics, Vibration and Control; Energy; Fluids Engineering; Micro and Nano Manufacturing, 2014
A very detailed experimental case of a reversed profile in ground effect has been selected in the open literature and the available experimental data have been used as reference data for CFD analysis. The CFD approach has been used to predict the aerodynamic performance of the profile at different heights with respect to the ground: from the freestream

Turbine Aerodynamic Design and Off-Design Performance

2005
The turbine component is the power generator in a gas turbine system. As briefly discussed in Chapter 12, within a turbine component, an exchange of mechanical energy (shaft work) with the surroundings takes place. In contrast to compressors, the total energy of the working medium is partially converted into shaft work, thus supplying necessary power ...
