Particle identification with the AMS-02 RICH detector: D/p and anti-D/anti-p separation

open access: yes, 2008
The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS), whose final version AMS-02 is to be installed on the International Space Station (ISS) for at least 3 years, is a detector designed to measure charged cosmic ray spectra with energies up to the TeV region and with ...

Unsaturated Coordination Oxygen in Zn─V─O Vacancy Clusters Enables Superb Zinc Storage Capability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Zn3(VO4)2 with Zn─V─O vacancy clusters was synthesized and innovatively applied as cathode material in aqueous Zn‐ion batteries. In‐situ XRD, HRTEM and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations unveil the double reaction mechanism of zinc ions. Adsorption of zinc ions on unsaturated coordination O and H+ on O in ‐VO4 contributes to the main capacity. It

A Wood Plasticine With Controlled Phase‐Change Behavior and Malleability for Energy‐Closed‐Loop and Conformally Adaptive Thermal Management

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A photothermal wood plasticine exhibiting controlled phase‐change behavior and malleable property is developed. The developed wood plasticine can provide all‐day, on‐demand, and low‐loss solar heating for geometrically diverse objects, including thermoelectric generator, human body, and battery, through its controlled crystallization‐melting ...

Trapping a Metastable Node in an Amorphous Metal–Organic Framework

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Frustrated assembly in an amorphous Fe‐BDC framework is shown to trap a distorted, metastable Fe3O node as the dominant local motif. X‐ray PDF analysis and DFT calculations reveal that rapid network percolation outpaces node relaxation, locking in a high‐energy puckered geometry.

Data‐Driven Review on Aerogels and Polymeric Aerogels

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition
AbstractA thoroughly data‐driven review on the chemistry, properties, and applications of aerogels is provided. Aerogel is a category of solid materials having homogeneous, highly porous nanostructures. Unique physicochemical properties of aerogels have attracted much attention in wide fields due to their potentials for energy/environmental issues in ...

Light‑Driven Propulsion of Graphene Aerogels in Microgravity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ultralight graphene aerogels convert laser light into thrust. Parabolic‐flight experiments directly compare their motion in microgravity and at 1 g, revealing order‐of‐magnitude enhancements in distance, velocity, and transient thrust when weight and friction are removed (∼50 times enhancement).

Robust and Thermally Stable Silicone Aerogels with Hyperconnected Network via Kinetically Optimized Hyperbranched Silane Precursors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Reactivity‐Programmed Assembly: A kinetic‐control strategy is reported for constructing hyperconnected silicone aerogels with a robust “thick‐neck” architecture. By exploiting the reactivity disparity of precursors, flexible segments are uniformly embedded within a rigid skeleton.

Adsorption of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solution onto triethylenetetramine-functionalized cellulose aerogel

open access: yesDesalination and Water Treatment
A novel eco-friendly and high-efficiency sorbent, triethylenetetramine-modified cellulose (TETA-MCC) aerogel, was prepared by grafting triethylenetetramine (TETA) onto cellulose for the removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions.

Embedded Direct‐Written Organic Micro‐TEGs for High‐Efficiency Skin‐Heat Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A finite‐element–guided design of direct‐written organic micro‐thermoelectric generators is presented for efficient skin‐heat harvesting. Embedding PEDOT:PSS/PBFDO thermoelectric legs within flexible substrates suppresses interfacial heat losses and enhances vertical heat flow.
