Abstract The Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) was formed by the aggregation and collage of numerous Paleozoic subduction‐accretion assemblages and Precambrian microcontinental blocks. However, the tectonic nature of the southeastern CAOB remains controversial, which complicates the reconstruction of the Paleo‐Asian Ocean.

Morphology and tectonics of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, 7°–12°S
We present swath bathymetric, gravity, and magnetic data from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between the Ascension and the Bode Verde fracture zones, where significant ridge–hot spot interaction has been inferred.

A Contiguous Taltson‐Thelon Margin Revisited
Abstract The amalgamation of Laurentia was initiated along the western margin of the Rae craton. However, the tectonic setting that generated magmatic rocks along this margin has long been debated, with the Thelon tectonic zone in the north having formed in an arc setting, and the Taltson magmatic zone in the south variably attributed to either ...

GRAVSAT error analysis by means of global spectral analyses of the marine geoid from SEASAT altimeter data [PDF]
The geographical variability of short wavelength geoid power spectra (geoid roughness), was mapped for the world's oceans between latitudes 72 deg N and 72 deg S. A spectral analysis of SEASAT altimeter data, reduced to sea surface heights, was performed

Origin, structural and tectonic history of the Macquarie Island region [PDF]
Macquarie Island, in the Southern Ocean, was formed by oceanic crust uplift due to transpressive forces between the Indian / Australian and Pacific oceanic plates, in a transpressional regime which has persisted over the last 10 Ma. The amount of uplift

Abstract The Seiland Igneous Province (SIP) is a large province of mafic and ultramafic (UM) complexes interpreted to be relics of a giant plumbing system feeding the Ediacaran Central Iapetus Magmatic Province. The Reinfjord Ultramafic Complex (RUC) is one of the four major ultramafic complexes of the SIP.

Abstract Granitic batholiths of the ∼500 Ma Ross Orogen in Antarctica are voluminous in scale, reflecting prolific magmatism along the active early Paleozoic convergent margin of Gondwana. New age and isotopic analysis of zircons from a large suite of Ross granitoids spanning >2,000 km along the orogen provide a wealth of geochronologic, tracer, and ...

Crustal structure from 2-D gravity and magnetic data modeling, magnetic power spectrum inversion, and seismotectonics in the Laguna Salada basin, northern Baja California, Mexico [PDF]
We have constructed a 2-D model of the crustal structure that accounts for gravity and aeromagnetic data across the Laguna Salada basin, using independent inferences from seismic refraction studies and the Airy-Heiskanen model of isostatic compensation ...
