On the Terminology of Lipid Nanoparticles, Liposomes, and Vesicles

open access: yesChemSystemsChem, Volume 8, Issue 3, May 2026.
The terms “liposome,” “vesicle,” and “lipid nanoparticle” (LNP) should be defined clearly to avoid conceptual and practical errors. Structures and distinctions are introduced here for nonspecialists. Overly broad use of “LNP” to refer to any nanosized, lipid‐based assemblage is discouraged.
