Lethal effects of allyl isothiocyanate on the egg masses of flighted spongy moth complex Lymantria dispar japonica (Lepidoptera: Erebidae)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This study showed that AITC substance was lethal effect to Lymantria dispar japonica egg mass, and our results show a significant decline in egg hatching rate with increasing AITC concentrations. Abstract BACKGROUND The flighted spongy moth complex (FSMC) lays egg masses not only on host plants but also various artificial structures, such as, cargo ...

Spatial and temporal structure of the fog life cycle over Atlantic Canada and the Grand Banks

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
The relationship between fog occurrence and atmospheric and ocean surface conditions is explored from a 71‐year climatological analysis covering a broad range of spatial and temporal scales of marine fog over Atlantic Canada and the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, Canada. We find that the ocean surface plays a key role as a necessary boundary condition in

Exploiting the full potential of Doppler lidars: High‐resolution wind‐gust profiling in significant weather

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
The evolution of wind gusts is difficult to observe because gusts are short‐lived phenomena that can originate at higher altitudes. During the Field Experiment on Sub‐mesoscale Spatio‐Temporal Variability in Lindenberg (FESSTVaL), novel ground‐based remote‐sensing methodologies were applied to measure wind with Doppler lidars in order to provide the ...

The dry‐season low‐level cloud cover over western equatorial Africa: A case study with a mesoscale atmospheric model

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
The atmospheric mechanisms responsible for the low‐level cloud cover (LCC) over western equatorial Africa in the dry season are poorly studied. This study brings a better understanding of the mechanisms accounting for the diurnal LCC formation and dissipation, and it highlights some potential interactions between local and regional dynamics by using a ...

Modelling the influence of soil moisture on the Turkana jet

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
High‐resolution convection‐permitting experiments demonstrate that the Turkana jet is sensitive to soil moisture variations. When examining realistic dry and wet conditions, dry soils amplify a surface‐induced thermal low, which intensifies the along‐channel pressure gradient and strengthens the Turkana jet.
