An Approach to Improve on Stiffness for Aerostatics Bearing
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2019The pocketed orifice structure for the air-nozzles of an aerostatic bearing is usually a particular pocketed orifice. This structure can not help the shaft to reach high stiffness in working process, so the applicability of the aerostatic bearing in machines with large centrifugal or horizontal force is not focused.

AEROSTATIC BEARING TEST STAND FOR EXPERIMENTAL TESTING OF PLASTIC GEARS WITH AEROSTATIC BEARINGS
TribologiaThe design of metal gears is governed by numerous standards; however, guidelines for plastic gear design remain limited. Plastics exhibit greater sensitivity to temperature-induced changes in mechanical properties compared to metals, complicating accurate prediction of operational performance.

Microstructural design of materials for aerostatic bearings
Cement and Concrete Composites, 2008The aim of this work is to investigate the development of a high strength porous cementitious composite manufactured via cold-pressed compaction for use as the restrictor in aerostatic bearings for high precision applications since they provide a number of advantages over conventional orifice restrictors.

An aerostatic thrust bearing with a stiffness of
Nanotechnology, 1996This paper proposes a new type of aerostatic thrust bearing in order to achieve 10 times larger bearing stiffness compared with that of conventional aerostatic bearings. In this bearing, a porous restrictor with 1 - 3 mm diameter is employed instead of a conventional feed-hole restrictor to restrain gas flow entering the bearing clearance to a very ...

Improving the operation of aerostatic bearings
Russian Engineering Research, 2008Means of improving the performance of aerostatic bearings are considered. The existing methods are described in detail and classified. The basic approaches ensuring the maximum possible rigidity and carrying capacity, without loss of dynamic properties, are identified.

Active Aerostatic Bearings for Ultraprecision Applications
2007For ultraprecision applications, two types of active control restrictors for aerostatic bearings are evaluated. The first restrictor is called an aerostatically controlled restrictor (ACR), a bearing-pressure-feedback type. The change in the pressure on the bearing surface directly controls the restriction gap, and the stiffness of the aerostatic ...

Aerostatic Bearings for Coordinate Measuring Machines

Frictional characteristics of an aerostatic linear bearing
Tribology International, 2006Frictional characteristics of an aerostatic linear bearing are evaluated in detail by means of a developing method. In the method, the resultant force acting on the moving part of the bearing is measured highly accurately as the inertial force using an optical interferometer. The velocity dependence of dynamic friction is focused on in this paper.

Design Procedure for Flat Aerostatic Bearings
1976A generalised design procedure has been put forward for the design of single and multipocketed flat aerostatic bearings. This design procedure helps to minimise the air consumption without sacrificing any of the requirements. A set of graphs and nomograms have been proposed to quickly arrive at the correct solution for given data.
