Studying fluid squeeze characteristics for aerostatic journal bearing

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 2008
The Reynolds equation for studying fluid squeeze of aerostatic journal bearing is solved numerically by considering the quasi-steady behavior of the air film. The radial displacement can influence the air film thickness modifying the pressure distribution in the journal-bearing gap.

Discharge coefficient influence on the performance of aerostatic journal bearings

Tribology International, 2010
Aerostatic journal bearings need externally pressurized air. The discharge coefficient is usually assumed constant for sonic and subsonic flow conditions. However, some authors found that it is variable as a function of the pressure ratio, orifice throat discharge and supply pressures.

Static characteristics of aerostatic porous journal bearings with a surface-restricted layer

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2003
Graphite porous materials have been successfully used in an aerostatic bearing. This is because graphite porous materials have a lower permeability than porous metal, which makes it possible to achieve a higher stiffness in aerostatic bearings. However, aerostatic porous bearings have a disadvantage in that they are prone to cause pneumatic hammer ...

Influences of operational conditions and geometric parameters on the stiffness of aerostatic journal bearings

Precision Engineering, 2010
Abstract The stiffness of various geometric designs of aerostatic journal bearings for high-speed spindles was investigated under different operating conditions. First, the stiffness of the front and rear journal bearings was evaluated experimentally using the relationship of force and displacement at different supply pressures (6–9 bar). A numerical

Static performance of the aerostatic journal bearing with grooves

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2019
Aerostatic bearings are widely employed in precision machines due to their properties of low friction, low heat conduction, and long-life operation. In this work, static performance of the journal bearing with rectangular grooves is investigated numerically. The effect of geometrical parameters such as axial groove length [Formula:
