Effects of Number of Porous Insert, Spindle Speed and Gap Thickness on Characteristics of a Partially Porous Aerostatic Journal Bearing

Key Engineering Materials, 2015
The effects of the rotating speed of the spindle, the number of the porous medium inserted into the partially porous aerostatic journal bearing and the thickness of the bearing gap on the characteristics of the bearing such as the pressure distribution, the load carrying capacity and the stiffness of the bearing were studied. Based on the finite volume

Reducing the Radial Error Motion of an Aerostatic Journal Bearing to a Nanometre Level: Theoretical Modelling

open access: yesTribology Letters, 2013
Ultra-precision air bearings could enable novel and more accurate precision applications. In this paper we report on the design of an ultra-precision air-bearing system, intended to reduce the radial error motion, i.e.

Design of aerostatic journal bearings with partially porous walls

International Journal of Machine Tool Design and Research, 1978
Abstract Steady-state characteristics of aerostatic journal bearings fed through rows of porous inserts are investigated. The use of a simplified mathematical model allows to derive relationships for the load-capacity, the stiffness, the gas flow rate and the power consumption of the bearing, as functions of the supply pressure, the relative ...

Dynamic Stiffness and Damping Coefficients of Aerostatic, Porous, Journal Bearings

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 1978
A periodic (displacement) disturbance is imposed on an aerostatic, porous, journal bearing of finite length under steady-state conditions. The dynamic pressure distribution is obtained by a pressure perturbation analysis of Reynolds equation and a modified flow continuity equation in a porous medium.

Performance of the Partially Porous and the Fully Porous Aerostatic Journal Bearings with Incompressible Air Flow

Key Engineering Materials, 2014
This report presents a study on the performance of the fully porous and the partially porous aerostatic journal bearings. Based on the finite volume method and the pressure-velocity coupling scheme of the SIMPLE algorithm with the standard k-ε turbulent model, this study utilized the CFD software to solve the incompressible three dimensional Navier ...

Effect of Slip Flow on the Steady-State Performance of Aerostatic Porous Journal Bearings

Journal of Tribology, 1984
A theoretical solution is presented to predict the steady-state performance characteristics of aerostatic porous journal bearings of finite thickness considering three dimensional flow in the porous media. The analysis takes into account the velocity slip at the film bearing interface by using Beavers-Joseph criterion.
