Azaporphyrinoid‐Based Photo‐ and Electroactive Architectures for Advanced Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A long‐standing collaboration between the Torres and Guldi groups has yielded diverse azaporphyrinoid‐based donor‐acceptor nanohybrids with promising applications in solar energy conversion. This conspectus highlights key molecular platforms and structure‐function relationships that govern light and charge management, supporting the rational design of ...

Indiscernible Properties, Discernible Artworks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In this paper I will try to trace a discussion about status of art in some recent theories, which pay special attention to the fact that artworks are the kind of things to which representational, expressive, and aesthetic properties are ascribed.

The Value of Consciousness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Recent work within such disparate research areas as the epistemology of perception, theories of well-being, animal and medical ethics, the philosophy of consciousness, and theories of understanding in philosophy of science and epistemology has featured ...

3D Anodic Alumina Nanoarchitectures: A Decade of Progress from Foundational Science to Functional Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ordered three‐dimensional anodic aluminum oxide (3D‐AAO) nanoarchitectures with longitudinal and transverse pores enable architecture‐driven metamaterials. The review maps fabrication advances, including hybrid pulse anodization, and shows how 3D‐AAO templates tailor properties across magnetism, energy, catalysis, and sensing.

Expressivism and Arguing about Art [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Peter Kivy claims that expressivists in aesthetics cannot explain why we argue about art. The situation would be different in the case of morals. Moral attitudes lead to action, and since actions affect people, we have a strong incentive to change people’

Transparent Perovskite Light‐Emitting Diodes with Conductive Oxide Top Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Transparent perovskite light‐emitting diodes (TrPeLEDs) enable simultaneous display and transparency, expanding application possibilities. Using a metal oxide buffer layer and pulsed laser deposition, TrPeLEDs with diverse compositions and architectures are demonstrated.

Perception of native grasslands in south-eastern Australia: some implications for landscape aesthetics and other landscape values [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Grasslands are considered to be Australia’s most threatened ecosystems, yet relatively little is known about human preferences and attitudes which contribute to continued degradation of these landscapes.

Mechanically Robust MXene‐Metal Polyphenol Network Hybrid Interfaces for Multifunctional Protection of Keratin Fibers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Hair keratin fibers inevitably deteriorate under UV exposure, heat, and dryness. A robust composite coating assembles delaminated Ti3C2 MXene nanosheets onto keratin surfaces through biocompatible metal‐polyphenol networks of EGCG. This hybrid layer simultaneously screens UV, dissipates heat, reinforces mechanical strength, suppresses static charge ...

Performative Aesthetic Properties in Everyday Design Practice

open access: yesEidos. A Journal for Philosophy of Culture
Chairs, cups, books, and utensils populate our everyday lives and are protagonists of much of our ordinary aesthetic experience. It would seem natural, therefore, for the philosophy of design and everyday aesthetics to constitute intersecting fields of ...

Symmetric and asymmetric relations, and the aesthetics of form in poetic language [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This article asks how the properties of symmetry and asymmetry, as aesthetic properties, are realized in literary language. I will argue that language makes available many kinds of asymmetry, and that the asymmetry often holds between two elements which ...
