Near‐Fault Strong‐Motion of the 2023 Mw7.8 Kahramanmaraş Earthquake: Insights Into High‐Frequency Radiation Mechanisms

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 11, November 2025.
Abstract While classic double‐couple earthquake models explain seismic wavefields accurately at low frequencies, at higher frequencies, seismic radiation exhibits significantly more complex and stochastic characteristics. Various on‐fault and off‐fault mechanisms have been proposed to explain high‐frequency radiation, yet their relative contributions ...

Do Wolves Protect Forests? Investigating the Link Between Wolf Density, Deer Browse, and Plant Recovery

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2025.
We planted white oak (Quercus alba), red oak (Quercus rubra), and zigzag goldenrod (Solidago flexicaulis) seedlings across a gradient of wolf density and residence time in northern Wisconsin and recorded deer browse and frequency of 11 common understory plants at each site.

Modelling the Importance of Ground and Strong‐Motion Variables on the Damage Status in the 2023 Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes Using Supervised Machine Learning

open access: yesGeoscience Data Journal, Volume 12, Issue 4, October 2025.
KNN achieved the highest performance (0.989) using the full dataset and 0.988 with ground‐based parameters. EBd and f0 were key contributors to damage, while PGA dominated strong‐motion models. Specificity consistently outperformed sensitivity in earthquake‐parameter models.

Effects of Fire and Explosion Event in a Rural Area Fuel Depot Tank Farm: A Case Study From Istanbul, Türkiye

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 20, Issue 5, September/October 2025.
ABSTRACT Chemical facilities storing large volumes of flammable liquids close to residential areas pose severe fire‐and‐explosion hazards that can escalate into disasters. In this study, a tank farm located within Istanbul's city limits is examined to evaluate possible catastrophic scenarios using consequence analysis methods. For this purpose, several
