Acute Aflatoxicosis: A Review

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1973
SUMMARY Aflatoxicosis caused by aflatoxin B1 and related toxins represents one of the most serious diseases of man, as well as of poultry, livestock, and other lower animals. The aflatoxins, produced by approximately 30% of the strains of Aspergillus flavus and by Penicillium puberulum, are frequent contaminants of harvested feeds and foods (rice, corn,

Aflatoxicosis in farm animals

Veterinary Research Communications, 1983
Under conditions presently prevailing in the UK aflatoxicosis in farm animals, as defined in this paper, is largely confined to cattle but acute and chronic clinical liver disease is seldom if ever encountered. There is circumstantial evidence for sub-clinical and non-specific aflatoxicosis but dose-effect relationships have yet to be established ...

Effectiveness of melatonin on aflatoxicosis in chicks

Research in Veterinary Science, 2009
The efficacy of melatonin co-administration on aflatoxicosis in chicks was investigated. Ross PM3 breed chicks were divided into groups of 10 and given conventional feed. One of the groups was kept as a control (C), and the others were given 150ppb aflatoxin (AF1), 300ppb aflatoxin (AF2), 150ppb aflatoxin plus 10mg/kg/bwt melatonin (AF1+M), 300ppb ...

Progression of aflatoxicosis in growing barrows

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1988
SUMMARY The progression of aflatoxicosis was evaluated in growing crossbred barrows given 0,1, 2, 3, or 4 mg of aflatoxin (af)/kg of feed for 28 days (6 to 10 weeks of age). On day 28, pigs were euthanatized and necropsied, and tissues were removed for histologic examination.

Spontaneous and experimental aflatoxicosis in goats

Research in Veterinary Science, 1975
Naturally occurring aflatoxicosis is described in goats fed a concentrate mixture containing polkudu meal (defatted residue from grated coconut after juice extraction). Toxigenic strains of Aspergillus flavus were present in the concentrate and aflatoxins were recovered from the liver and urine of affected animals.

Immunomodulation in aflatoxicosis

1986
As we hold this meeting, we are completing the first quarter-century of realization of the many biological effects of aflatoxicosis. Nearly 10 years after the initial description of widespread aflatoxic disease among animals in Europe, three separate investigations pointed to suppression of immunologic responsiveness after exposure to aflatoxin ...

An Outbreak of Aflatoxicosis in Man

1982
There has been in recent years growing concern about the possible health hazards of mycotoxins. Under unsatisfactory conditions of food storage, particularly when environmental temperature and moisture are high, fungal contamination can easily occur. Several food commodities have been known to be attacked by a variety of storage fungi, and several of ...

[Diet imbalances and aflatoxicosis].

Annales de la nutrition et de l'alimentation, 1978
Generally we know influences of diet's balances or imbalances upon toxicants. Some actions appear with aflatoxins as shown by studies on rat, pig, calf, poultry, turkey and duckling. According to species considered, oral administration of aflatoxins reduces food consummation, Nitrogen balance, respiratory coefficient.
