EXCHANGE RATE POLICIES IN LATIN AMERICA AND ASIA, A COMPARATIVE STUDY [PDF]

open access: yes
A recurrent issue in the empirical literature that relates real exchange rate levels and growth is the relatively undervalued level of the Asian currencies when compared to Latin American and African ones for the period 1970 to 1999.

Climate Action Impacts on Steelmaking Emissions of Persistent Organic Pollutants Highlight a Gap Between the Paris Agreement and the Stockholm Convention

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Emissions of unintentionally produced persistent organic pollutants (UPOPs) and global warming are two major environmental challenges. But their governance has largely evolved in parallel, leaving the toxicity implications of climate‐driven industrial transitions poorly understood.

Setting and motivation in the decision to participate: An approach to the engagement of diverse samples in mobile research. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Internet and mobile based research are powerful tools in the creation of large, cohort studies (eCohort). However, recent analysis indicates that an underrepresentation of minority and low income groups in these studies might exceed that found in ...

Global Nitrogen Deposition Promotes Carbon Sink Formation in Terrestrial Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nitrogen deposition alleviates ecosystem N limitation and enhances carbon sinks. Using 829 observations, we show 36% of deposited N is retained globally (39.15 Tg N yr−1), with distinct NHx and NOy contributions. This retention drives a terrestrial C sink of 0.88 Pg C yr−1 (25.48%), highlighting the importance of pool‐specific C:N stoichiometry ...

Corals and Reef‐Dwelling Fish Regulate Carbon Storage and Cycling Processes in Coral Reef Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Coral reefs are biodiversity hotspots, yet their role in carbon storage and cycling remains poorly understood. Using field surveys and modeling in the South China Sea, we reveal the overlooked potential of carbon storage in reef ecosystems and how reef fish, corals, and surface sediment jointly shape reef carbon reservoirs.

Collective life unbroken [PDF]

open access: yes
Making parallel cases for Muslim and African American collective life, this paper suggests taking the otherwise meaningless commonality of racial identity to which blacks have been ‘condemned’ and using it as a platform to incessantly provoke, experiment,

Oil‐Coated Nanoplastics Induce Rapid Membrane Disruption and Severe Intestinal Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Oil‐rich food contact dramatically amplifies MNP release from plastic takeout containers, producing oil‐coated nanoplastics with altered surface properties and rapid membrane‐disruptive effects. These particles cause severe intestinal barrier damage and immune dysfunction in mice, and risk modeling suggests that long‐term gastrointestinal burdens may ...
