Identification of Africanized honeybees

Journal of Chromatography A, 2005
Gas chromatography and pattern recognition methods were used to develop a potential method for differentiating European honeybees from Africanized honeybees. The test data consisted of 237 gas chromatograms of hydrocarbon extracts obtained from the wax glands, cuticle, and exocrine glands of European and Africanized honeybees.

Survival After Massive (>2000) Africanized Honeybee Stings

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1998
We report the clinical case of a man who survived a massive attack of Africanized bees (>2000 bee stings). The man experienced anaphylactic shock and multisystem organ failure (neurologic, hepatic, renal, and hematologic failure). He was treated with administration of dopamine hydrochloride, antihistaminic agents, corticosteroids, fluid and electrolyte

An improved test for Africanized honeybee mitochondrial DNA

Experientia, 1991
Mitochondrial DNA derived from Apis mellifera scutellata, the ancestor of the Africanized bees of the New World, lacks a BglII restriction site found in other types of honeybee. We present primers allowing amplification of a 485-bp section of the cytochrome b gene containing this site, using the polymerase chain reaction.
