Taxonomy of the ant genus Nesomyrmex Wheeler (Formicidae, Myrmicinae) in the Afrotropical region, with a review of current species groups and description of a new species of the N. angulatus group from Mozambique

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Taxonomy, 2017
This study reviews the taxonomy of the ant genus Nesomyrmex Wheeler, 1910 in the Afrotropical region. Previous revisionary studies are discussed and four species groups are proposed on the basis of external morphology. The N.

A Time‐Calibrated Phylogeny and Historical Biogeography of Leptoceridae (Trichoptera): Diversification Shaped by Gondwanan Fragmentation and Conflicting Evidence for the Family's Origin

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Leptoceridae is the second most diverse caddisfly family, spreading across all biogeographical regions but with a higher species richness in the Oriental region; nevertheless, the Afrotropical, Austral and Neotropical regions have greater genera diversity and endemicity.

Tolerating the Anthropocene: Squamate Life History Shapes Patterns of Presence in Human Modified Landscapes

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, Volume 1, Issue 3, September 2026.
We found that many squamates exhibit moderate tolerance of human modification, with wider ranging, larger bodied, faster reproducing species showing the highest tolerance. Intolerance to modification was linked to extinction risk across squamates, supporting the idea that human activity is a primary driver of reptile declines.

A new species of Atractides Koch, 1837 (Acari: Hydrachnidia, Hygrobatidae) from Ethiopia, with a discussion on the biodiversity of the genus Atractides in the Afrotropical region

open access: yesZooKeys, 2011
A new species of Atractides Koch, 1837 (Acari, Hydrachnidia) is described from Ethiopia. The world number of Atractides now tallies 297 species. The diversity of the genus Atractides in the Afrotropical region is briefly discussed.

Continuous field assessments and data sharing to rationalize the IUCN's impact in mammal conservation: a case study of Rwanda

open access: yesWildlife Biology, Volume 2026, Issue 5, September 2026.
Taxonomic work, conservation practice, and Red List assessments from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) are intricately linked. The primary conservation goal for biodiversity is to halt the factors driving local extinctions of species.
