Chromosome numbers are not fixed in Agaonidae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea)

Agaonidae (the pollinators of fig trees, Ficus spp., Moraceae) are a distinctive family of chalcid wasps with uncertain affinities within the Chalcidoidea. Chromosome numbers have only been described previously for one species (Blastophaga psenes, 2n = 12, the pollinator of F. carica, of subgenus Ficus).

The structure of the female reproductiiye system in the Agaonidae (Chalcidoidea, Hymenoptera)

SYNOPSIS An account is given of the gaster, ovipositor mechanism and reproductive system in female Agaonidae. The structure and possible functions are compared with that of other chalcid families and the phylogenetic relationships of the group are discussed.

The Phylogeny of the Agaonidae (Hymenoptera, Chalcidoidea)

This is an interim report on the analysis of the relationships within the Agaonidae (fig wasps). The family is subdivided into the two subfamilies Agaoninae and Blastophaginae. In the Agaoninae, three groups are recognized, according to their geographical distribution (i.e., Africa, Australia c.a., South America).

Fig wasps (Hymenoptera: Agaonidae and Torymidae) in New Zealand

The symbiotic Hymenoptera associated with the Australian banyan figs Ficus macrophylla and F. rubiginosa and established in New Zealand are listed and keyed. Pseudidarnes minerva (Girault), Sycoscapter australis (Froggatt) and Megastigmus sp. are new records for the N.Z. fauna.
