Environmental effects, population genetic parameters, breeding value, phenotypic and genetic trend for age at first calving of Limousin cows [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Central European Agriculture, 2021
Some environmental effects, population genetic parameters, breeding value of Limousin breeding bulls, also phenotypic and genetic trends in the age at first calving (AFC) of cows between 1992 and 2013 were estimated.

Trend of Age at First Calving

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1985
Mean ages at first calving were computed from over 6 million cow records from 1960 through 1982 for six breeds. Average Jerseys first calved at 26.18 mo compared with 28.75 mo for Ayrshires. Other breed means were intermediate: Holsteins, 27.52 mo; Guernseys, 27.72 mo; Brown Swiss, 28.04 mo; and Milking Shorthorns, 28.11 mo.

Association between age at first calving and milk production in first lactation on longevity traits in Holstein cows [PDF]

open access: yesBiotechnology in Animal Husbandry, 2020
The objective of this research was to determine the association between age at first calving (AFC) and milk production in the first lactation of longevity traits for Holstein cows. The research was conducted on 2307 cows raised on 4 farms in AP Vojvodina.

Evaluation of HF crossbred bulls under field progeny testing programme at different agro-climatic regions in India

open access: yesIndian Journal of Animal Sciences, 2020
Adequate numbers of progeny tested bulls are not available in India and whatever small number of bulls are progeny tested, they have low repeatability as the progeny tests are based on small number of daughters mostly reared at the institutional farms ...

Age at First Calving

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1917
The most desirable age for the first parturition with cows is a very important question. In a great many herds it is certain that the method of raising heifers is not such as to permit full development of their inherited powers of production. Prof. F. W. WQll in Research Bulletin No.

Productive life in buffalo cows and effect of some factors on it

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2010
Subject of investigation were 3989 buffaloes from the Bulgarian Murrah breed during the period 1976 – 2003. The productive life (PL) is determined as the period between date of first calving to the date of last milking, before culling.

The age at first calving and the longevity of beef cows in Hungary [PDF]

open access: yesArchives Animal Breeding, 2006
Abstract. The length of time beef cows spend in production is an important component of the rentability of beef cattle husbandry. In spite of this fact, very few publications have dealt with this trait, either in Hungary or abroad. Therefore the aim of the present study was to evaluate some of the age parameters of beef cows related to the production ...

Meta-analysis of the effects of age at first calving on production outcomes, calving difficulty, and reproduction in dairy heifers

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science
: This study aims to determine the effects of feeding, management, and reproductive strategies used to reduce age at first calving (AFC) on production and reproductive performance through meta-analytic methods.
