GENETIC ANALYSIS OF REPRODUCTIVE TRAITS IN BALI CATTLE MAINTAINED ON RANGE UNDER ARTIFICIALLY AND NATURALLY BRED [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Indonesian Tropical Animal Agriculture, 2011
The aim of this study was to evaluate genetic analysis including heritability and further phenotypic and genetic trends of reproductive traits in Bali cattle.

Productive life in buffalo cows and effect of some factors on it

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2010
Subject of investigation were 3989 buffaloes from the Bulgarian Murrah breed during the period 1976 – 2003. The productive life (PL) is determined as the period between date of first calving to the date of last milking, before culling.

Trend of Age at First Calving

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1985
Mean ages at first calving were computed from over 6 million cow records from 1960 through 1982 for six breeds. Average Jerseys first calved at 26.18 mo compared with 28.75 mo for Ayrshires. Other breed means were intermediate: Holsteins, 27.52 mo; Guernseys, 27.72 mo; Brown Swiss, 28.04 mo; and Milking Shorthorns, 28.11 mo.

The extent of increase in first calving age as a result of implementing various sexed semen breeding strategies

open access: yesSpanish Journal of Agricultural Research, 2014
A deterministic simulation was conducted to assess the effects of sexed semen utilization strategies on age at first calving (AFC). Four different strategies were implemented on dairy heifers: continuous use of conventional semen only (CC), continuous ...

Bayesian linear-threshold censored models for genetic evaluation of age at first calving and stayability in Nellore cattle

open access: yesLivestock Science, 2019
We aimed to evaluate multiple-trait Bayesian models for handling censored records in genetic evaluations of age at first calving (AFC) and stayability (STAY) in Nellore cattle.

Age at First Calving

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1917
The most desirable age for the first parturition with cows is a very important question. In a great many herds it is certain that the method of raising heifers is not such as to permit full development of their inherited powers of production. Prof. F. W. WQll in Research Bulletin No.

Comparison of the effects of high and low milk-replacer feeding regimens on health and growth of crossbred dairy heifers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Context: Pre-weaning growth in dairy heifers is highly dependent on the amount of milk fed. Both milk replacer (MR) and associated labour are costly, encouraging restricted milk rations and once-a-day feeding.

Accounting for animal health in efficiency analysis: An application to Swedish dairy farms

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Poor animal health is a central concern in modern livestock production. Despite the necessity to incorporate animal health in efficiency analysis, the theoretical and empirical developments are limited on this subject. This article appropriately characterizes the axiomatic properties of animal health within a production framework.
