Age determination and estimation of larval period in field caught abalone (Haliotis discus hannai Ino 1953) larvae and newly metamorphosed post-larvae by counts of radular teeth rows

Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology, 2006
Abstract We developed an age determination method for larval and newly metamorphosed post-larval abalone Haliotis discus hannai in a laboratory experiment and determined the age of field caught individuals. Laboratory experiments showed that competent veliger larvae (4 days after fertilization) had a radula and regularly added rows of radular teeth

A review of the age determination of mammals by means of teeth, with especial reference to Africa

African Journal of Ecology, 1973
SummaryA growing requirement exists to determine the ages of the larger African mammals, concomitant with increasing management. Teeth offer the most practicable means of age determination, but no wholly reliable method, based on teeth, has been demonstrated.

Age determination by teeth examination: a comparison among different morphologic and quantitative analysis

Journal of Clinical Forensic Medicine, 1998
Age determination by teeth examination is one of the main means of determining personal identification. Current studies have suggested different techniques for determining the age of a subject by means of the analysis of microscopic and macroscopic structural modifications of the tooth with ageing.

The determination of 90Sr and 228Ra in human teeth by age groups and in other substances

The International Journal of Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1984
The total 90Sr content of human teeth peaks at a value of 0.65 pCi/g calcium in the age group of 20-30 years. It is not present in those 50 years or older. Various other substances show extensive amounts of 90Sr especially in cow bones, bone meal and dry milk.

[Age determination by teeth].

Deutsche zahnarztliche Zeitschrift, 1980
Of the many measurements cited in the literature, correlation with age can only be established for the length of the transparent root dentine and that of the pulp cavity. The chronological age can be estimated with 90% reliability (+/- 5 years) for subjects between the ages of 20 and 60 by evaluating the quotients of both measurements.
