ABSTRACT Background Pediatric patients with extracranial solid tumors (ST) receiving chemotherapy are at an increased risk for Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP). However, evidence guiding prophylaxis practices in this population is limited. A PJP‐related fatality at our institution highlighted inconsistent prescribing approaches and concerns about

Premicellar aggregation of amphiphilic molecules: Aggregate lifetime and polydispersity
A recently introduced thermodynamic model of amphiphilic molecules in solution has yielded, under certain realistic conditions, a significant presence of metastable aggregates well below the critical micelle concentration -- a phenomenon that has been ...

Sickle Cell Disease Is an Inherent Risk for Asthma in a Sibling Comparison Study
ABSTRACT Introduction Sickle cell disease (SCD) and asthma share a complex relationship. Although estimates vary, asthma prevalence in children with SCD is believed to be comparable to or higher than the general population. Determining whether SCD confers an increased risk for asthma remains challenging due to overlapping symptoms and the ...

Improving the quality of various types of recycled aggregates by biodesposition [PDF]
Demand for construction materials has been rising in recent decades in many countries around the world, placing a heavy burden on the environment in terms of both the natural resources consumed and the enormous flow of waste generated. In order to obtain

Localization of protein aggregation in Escherichia coli is governed by diffusion and nucleoid macromolecular crowding effect [PDF]
Aggregates of misfolded proteins are a hallmark of many age-related diseases. Recently, they have been linked to aging of Escherichia coli (E. coli) where protein aggregates accumulate at the old pole region of the aging bacterium.

ABSTRACT We sought to identify potential early risk biomarkers for lung disease in children post‐allogeneic HCT. Patients with pulmonary function tests 3 months post‐transplant and plasma samples between days 7 and 14 post‐HCT were included. Six of 27 subjects enrolled had reduced forced expiratory volume 1 (FEV1) z scores.

Self-assembled aggregates in the gravitational field: growth and nematic order
The influence of the gravitational field on the reversible process of assembly and disassembly of linear aggregates is focus of this paper. Even the earth gravitational field can affect the equilibrium properties of heavy biological aggregates such as ...

Fractal dimension of fumed silica: Comparison of light scattering and electron microscope methods [PDF]
Due to the enormous increase in nanopowder production, it becomes necessary to find and develop adapted characterization techniques. In the case of nanostructured agglomerates, the structure of these particles has a direct impact on flowing, and handling,
