Boltzmann-type models with uncertain binary interactions

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper we study binary interaction schemes with uncertain parameters for a general class of Boltzmann-type equations with applications in classical gas and aggregation dynamics.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Application of single-molecule analysis to singularity phenomenon of cells

open access: yesBiophysics and Physicobiology
Single-molecule imaging in living cells is an effective tool for elucidating the mechanisms of cellular phenomena at the molecular level. However, the analysis was not designed for throughput and requires high expertise, preventing it from reaching large

Synthesis and Characterization of Multilayer 3D Chiral Polymers with Enhanced Optical Properties

open access: yesMolecules
This study reports the synthesis of novel multilayer 3D chiral polymers using 2,2′-(2,7-Naphthalenediyl)bis[4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolane] and 1,8-dibronaphthalene along with its derivatives as key precursors. Comprehensive characterization was

Aggregation of magnetic holes in a rotating magnetic field

open access: yes, 2008
We have experimentally investigated field induced aggregation of nonmagnetic particles confined in a magnetic fluid layer when rotating magnetic fields were applied.

Tumor mutational burden as a determinant of metastatic dissemination patterns

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study performed a comprehensive analysis of genomic data to elucidate whether metastasis in certain organs share genetic characteristics regardless of cancer type. No robust mutational patterns were identified across different metastatic locations and cancer types.

Mesoscale Near-Surface Wind Speed Variability Mapping with Synthetic Aperture Radar

open access: yesSensors, 2008
Operationally-significant wind speed variability is often observed within synthetic aperture radar-derived wind speed (SDWS) images of the sea surface.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Histochemical approaches to assess cell-to-cell transmission of misfolded proteins in neurodegenerative diseases

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Histochemistry, 2013
Formation, aggregation and transmission of abnormal proteins are common features in neurodegenerative disorders including Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Huntington’s disease. The mechanisms underlying protein

(WP 2015-03) Lawson on Veblen on Social Ontology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper discusses Lawson’s use of Veblen’s concept of ‘neoclassical economics’ and argument that the category of neoclassical economics should be jettisoned on the grounds that it obfuscates effective critique of mainstream economics.
