Aggregation phenomena and fractal aggregates

Contemporary Physics, 1987
Abstract Recent work to understand aggregation phenomena and the structure of fractal aggregates is reviewed. After describing a typical aggregation experiment, the concept of the fractal is introduced and theoretical models capable of building fractal clusters are reviewed with particular emphasis on diffusion-limited aggregation.

Fluctuations and scaling in aggregation phenomena [PDF]

open access: possiblePhysical Review B, 2000
We introduce a method which enables us to isolate different sources of fluctuations during a typical aggregation process. As an example, we focus on the evolution of islands during irreversible submonolayer epitaxy. We show that only spatial fluctuations in island nucleation are required to produce the scaling of their size distribution as determined ...

Protein Folding and Aggregation Phenomena

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2003
A simple lattice protein model is used to study the effects of aggregation phenomena on protein folding. Folding kinetics of non‐isolated protein molecules is studied: different molecules can interact each other and, in competition with folding, aggregation (formation of a dimer) can occur.

Collagen aggregation phenomena

Biopolymers, 1966
AbstractThree processes by which tropocollagen units associate to yield highly specific aggregates have been examined. From the temperature coefficients of the amounts aggregated it is concluded that the complex “native” aggregation is endothermic, whereas both end‐to‐end and lateral aggregation are exothermic.

Aggregation phenomena in telechelic star polymer solutions

Physical Review E, 2009
Telechelic star polymers are macromolecules with functionalized, mutually attractive end groups. We employ computer simulations on a lattice to investigate the phase behavior of trifunctional telechelic stars as a function of the fraction lambda of attractive terminal monomers.

Kinetics of asphaltene aggregation phenomena in live oils

Journal of Molecular Liquids, 2016
Abstract The thorough knowledge of the asphaltene aggregation phenomena and pressure/temperature related kinetics is helpful for accurate prediction/control of the asphaltene issues in all facets of petroleum production/processing. However, characterizing the asphaltene aggregation phenomena in live oils at high pressure-high temperature conditions ...

Aggregation phenomena in the suspension polymerization of VCM

Colloid & Polymer Science, 1990
In the suspension polymerization of VCM, insoluble polymer particles are formed inside the monomer droplets. The growth and aggregation of these particles are responsible for important polymer properties, such as porosity. It is well established that the most characteristic polymer particles, the primary particles, are of a narrow distribu- tion with a

Rate Equation Approach to Aggregation Phenomena

1986
A general qualitative theory for the mean-field rate equation describing aggregation processes is described. Various exponents describing the cluster-size distribution and its time evolution are derived. It is found that this theory frequently gives a good account of systems with more realistic kinetics, such as cluster-cluster aggregation, but that ...

Environmental implications of aggregation phenomena: Current understanding

Current Opinion in Colloid & Interface Science, 2006
This review highlights the current understanding of the aggregation phenomena of importance in Industrial Environmental Protection Technology; namely of particle aggregation in wastewater and gas emission treatment. The wastewaters and gaseous emissions from Forest Industry are our main focus.
