Spring and Power in Hovering Ornithopters

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Only small ornithopters can hover, longest at the hummingbird size. This article reviews the drive and power of these hovering machines, focusing on elastic energy and thrust boosters. Unlike two‐winged designs, X‐winged and multiple‐V‐winged ornithopters benefit from lower disk loading and slower, smaller wingbeats, and the clap‐and‐fling effect ...

Morphy: A Compliant and Morphologically Aware Flying Robot

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study presents Morphy, a 25.2 cm‐wide, 260 g aerial robot with flexible, sensorized joints that enable it to withstand high‐speed collisions and squeeze through narrow spaces. Powered by an adaptive control scheme exploiting real‐time morphology feedback, Morphy demonstrates resilience in trajectory tracking, collision, and impact recovery and ...

Chemical Recycling for Plastic Waste: Status and Perspectives

open access: yesChemBioEng Reviews, Volume 9, Issue 6, Page 541-555, December 2022., 2022
The already well‐established industrial‐scale mechanical recycling of plastics has technical and economic limits. New goods for all areas of plastics application can be generated by chemical recycling processes. This review focuses on pyrolysis and solvolysis processes. The procedures and their most important features are described.

PairTilt: Design and Control of an Active Tilt‐Rotor Quadcopter for Improved Efficiency and Agility

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
PairTilt is an actuated tilt‐rotor unmanned aerial vehicle capable of active shape reconfiguration, balancing simplicity, efficiency, and agility. Its H‐shaped frame incorporates pairwise tiltable rotors, which reduce gyroscopic torque and decouple key dynamics, enhancing maneuverability and reducing drag.

Special Robotic Stylet for Assisting Endotracheal Intubation Based on Multisegment Continuum Mechanism

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A robotic stylet is proposed based on a multisegment continuum mechanism for specialized assisting endotracheal intubation. Its geometric parameters are designed based on medical images and kinematic is derived. A prototype is fabricated, and its kinematics and application are experimentally verified. These robotic systems can improve accurate, secure,

Bioinspired Design, Fabrication, and Wing Morphing of 3D‐Printed Magnetic Butterflies

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Inspired by the remarkable flight of monarch butterflies, lightweight, 3D‐printed magnetic butterflies are fabricated that mimic natural wing morphing without embedded electronics. By varying size, vein patterns, and laser energy in powder bed fusion printing, how these factors enhance deformation efficiency is shown.

Using the agile adoption framework to assess agility and guide improvements [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Agility implies a set of principles that need to be followed in order to have the proposed responsiveness to change. This paper presents how the Agile Adoption Framework can be used to assess agility and pinpoint focus areas for companies that want to improve. Management found it useful in general to get data on possible focus points for improvement in
