Bioformulation of biochar as a potential inoculant carrier for sustainable agriculture

open access: yesEnvironmental Technology & Innovation, 2020
Abstract The dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides to increase agricultural outputs owing to the demands of a growing human population creates the need for a sustainable fertilizer. Biochar is presently a promising candidate as an inoculant carrier, given its highly porous structure, with nutrients naturally derived from the biomass, high

Soybean Auxin Transporter PIN3 Regulates Nitrate Acquisition to Improve Nitrogen Use and Seed Traits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Xu et al. discovers that switching off auxin transporters in soybean, PIN3a and PIN3b, disrupts auxin flow; this triggers ARF‐STF3/4 signal cascade to activate the nitrate importer NPF2.13 and soil nitrogen acquisition. Multi‐year field trials show edited soybeans maintain yield with higher oil content, offering a potential genetic route to improve ...

CD27 and ICOS as Targets of PD‐1/PD‐L1 Signaling to Regulate Resident Memory CD8+ T‐Cell‐Mediated Pulmonary Protection and Pathology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Here it is revealed that the costimulatory receptors CD27 and ICOS are essential for the long‐term maintenance of PD‐1high CD8+ TRM cells following influenza infection. PD‐L1 blockade enhances the proliferation and activation of these cells through Nur77 activation downstream of the CD27/ICOS signaling axis, thereby boosting host immunity against ...

Recycling of oil palm empty fruit bunch as potential carrier for biofertilizer formulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The palm oil industry generates large amount of biomass waste such as oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) and palm oil mill effluent (POME). This biomass would be typically recycled to produce EFB compost that is a valuable agricultural input.

Folic Acid‐Modified Ginger‐Derived Exosome‐Like Nanoparticles Co‐Delivering Sunitinib Suppress Renal Cell Carcinoma via PI3K‐Akt Pathway Inhibition, P‐gp Downregulation, and Macrophage Reprogramming

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FPD‐GELNs co‐deliver Su and bioactive components. This active‐passive dual‐targeting strategy suppresses the progression of RCC through the following mechanisms: 1) inhibition of the PI3K‐Akt signaling pathway; 2) downregulation of ABCB1/P‐gp to enhance the chemosensitivity of RCC to Su; and 3) reprogramming of macrophages toward M1 polarization and ...

Coupling Nitrogenous Organic Wastewater Treatment and Biorefinery via N‐Cycling Bacterium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The vast reservoir of nitrogenous organic pollutants in industrial wastewaters can serve as untapped carbon‐nitrogen resources. This study employs the newly discovered Paracoccus sp. ZQW‐1 as a versatile chassis to simultaneously achieve N‐methylpyrrolidone (NMP) wastewater depuration and polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) synthesis.

MDP25‐VDAC3 Complex Orchestrates Actin Remodeling and Mitochondrial Dynamics to Modulate Innate Immunity in Arabidopsis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that actin remodeling regulates mitochondrial elongation as a defense strategy in plants. Flagellin perception induces fusion‐dependent elongation, supported by cortical actin bundles, to repair damage and boost ATP and ROS production.
