Global drivers of forest loss at 1 km resolution
Forests are in decline worldwide due to human activities such as agricultural expansion, urbanization, and mineral extraction. Forest loss due to generally temporary causes, such as wildfire and logging, is important to distinguish from permanent land ...

ABSTRACT Objective Variants in SLC6A1, encoding the GABA transporter 1 (GAT‐1), cause epilepsy, autism spectrum disorder, and developmental delay via loss of GABA uptake, impaired trafficking, and ER retention. We previously found that 4‐Phenylbutyrate (PBA), an FDA‐approved drug, restores GABA uptake and reduces seizures in SLC6A1‐related disorders ...

We measured two diethyl organophosphorus (OP) pesticides--chlorpyrifos and parathion--in residences, and their metabolic by-products, in the urine of children 6 years old or younger in a central Washington State agricultural community. Exposures to two dimethyl OP pesticides (azinphos-methyl and phosmet) in this same population have been reported ...

Objective Obesity, defined by body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m2, is a risk factor for functional limitations in people with knee osteoarthritis (OA). However, function varies among such individuals. Our objective was to evaluate the implications of obesity subtypes on longitudinal patterns of physical functioning in people with or at risk for knee OA ...

Creep Properties and Deformation Mechanism of Additively Manufactured NiAl‐CrMo Composites
Additively manufactured NiAl‐CrMo composites contain numerous interfaces and cell boundaries that control their creep response. At 700°C under high applied stress, creep is dominated by dislocation‐controlled power‐law mechanisms. At 800°C–900°C and lower stresses, creep is primarily diffusion‐controlled along cell boundaries.

Nanotechnology for Plant Disease Management
Each year, 20%⁻40% of crops are lost due to plant pests and pathogens. Existing plant disease management relies predominantly on toxic pesticides that are potentially harmful to humans and the environment.

Multilayer Self‐Limiting Electrospray Deposition via Stepped Voltage Bias
Self‐limiting electrospray deposition (SLED) uses a high voltage to generate and deposit a charged payload on a target surface. The coating retains its charge, repelling newly arriving material. SLED thickness can be decreased by applying a secondary bias to the target.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

DNA strands are employed both as dynamic linkers and nanoscale templates for the integration of Ag2S nanoparticles on MoS2, which in turn imparted photothermal responsiveness; this feature permits the selective cargo (fluorophore, quantum dots or an enzyme) release from the MoS2 surface in response to local heat induced by light irradiation.
