Maximizing Energy Generation in Agrivoltaic Systems: A Study of Bifacial and Monofacial Modules With Consideration of Module Height and Albedo Impact

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 14, Issue 4, Page 1795-1807, April 2026.
This study evaluates the performance of bifacial and monofacial PV modules in agrivoltaic systems using PVsyst simulations. Real albedo measurements from a wheat field were incorporated to ensure realistic results. Bifacial modules demonstrated a 19.46% increase in energy yield compared to monofacial ones.

Agrivoltaics: A Digital Twin to Learn the Effect of Solar Panel Coverage on Crop Growth [PDF]

open access: yes
Agrivoltaics is defined as “the dual use of land for solar energy production and agriculture”. On this topic, a number of issues are still to be properly addressed, e.g., how the shading effect of the solar panels affects crop growth. In this work, the

Land Use and Economic Trade‐Offs of Large‐Scale Solar in Agricultural Regions: Marginal National Impacts, Significant Regional Variations

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Volume 70, Issue 2, Page 395-409, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Large‐scale solar generation is critical for energy transitions. In Australia, increased solar production to meet emission targets means its land footprint increasingly competes with agricultural land. Understanding the scale and location of agricultural land use change and potential profitability losses from large‐scale solar farms is ...

Achieving Net‐Zero in the Electricity Sector in China by 2050 Considering Environmental and Economic Objectives

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, Volume 10, Issue 3, March 2026.
China's pathways to net‐zero electricity by 2050 are evaluated using life cycle environmental and economic assessment across six scenarios. Results show that a renewables‐only grid offers the best overall environmental performance and lowest cost, but increases burdens on metal depletion, land use, and ecotoxicity.

Economics of land‐based carbon mitigation

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, Volume 108, Issue 2, Page 443-461, March 2026.
Abstract Agricultural land holds tremendous potential to contribute to net zero greenhouse gas emission goals by providing low carbon renewable energy to displace fossil fuels and by serving as a sink for sequestering carbon in the soil with climate‐smart practices. This potential is, however, far from being realized.

Assessing the Impact of Agrivoltaic Systems on Pasture Plant and Soil Microarthropod Communities

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, Volume 5, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Agrivoltaic systems (AVS) integrate renewable energy production with agricultural use, creating novel microclimatic gradients that can affect ecosystem structure and function. However, the ecological consequences of these gradients on vegetation composition and soil biological quality remain poorly understood, particularly in pasture‐based AVS

Integration of Crops, Livestock, and Solar Panels: A Review of Agrivoltaic Systems

open access: yesAgronomy
This review article focuses on agrivoltaic production systems (AV). The transition towards renewable energy sources, driven by the need to respond to climate change, competition for land use, and the scarcity of fossil fuels, has led to the consideration

The potential of Agrivoltaic systems in TURKEY

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2021
Turkey is located in unique geographic position and it is like a bridge between the continents of Asia and Europe. Besides this, it lying partly between 36°–42° NL and 26°–45° EL in the Northern Hemisphere. Turkey has total surface area 780,043 km2 and its land use areas’ 31.1% is agricultural lands.

Climate‐Resilient Crop Production Under Agrivoltaics: Experimental Evaluation of Amaranth Production With Semi‐Transparent Photovoltaic Modules in Canada Under Changing Climates

open access: yesSustainable Development, Volume 34, Issue S2, Page 296-317, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Climate change threatens global food security, requiring climate‐smart systems that enhance both crop resilience and sustainable energy production. While agrivoltaics is recognized for combining solar power generation with agriculture, its effects on emerging stress‐tolerant crops such as amaranth remain largely unexplored, particularly under ...
