Sustainability of Agro-ecosystems in Bulgaria [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2019
Ecosystem approach has been increasingly incorporated in the management and evaluation of sustainability levels. Despite huge progress in the theory and practice of this new area, still there is no consensus on how to assess the sustainability of agro-ecosystems due to diverse understandings, approaches, methods, employed data, etc.

Whole-Genome Diversification Analysis of the Hornbeam Species Reveals Speciation and Adaptation Among Closely Related Species

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
Speciation is the key evolutionary process for generating biological diversity and has a central place in evolutionary and ecological research. How species diverge and adapt to different habitats is one of the most exciting areas in speciation studies ...

Genome-Wide Identification of Long Noncoding RNAs and Their Responses to Salt Stress in Two Closely Related Poplars

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2019
Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in various biological regulatory processes, but their roles in plants resistance to salt stress remain largely unknown.

Governing of Agro-Ecosystem Services [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2009
In this paper we incorporate interdisciplinary New Institutional and Transaction Costs Economics (combining Economics, Organization, Law, Sociology, Behavioral and Political Sciences), and suggest a framework for analysis of mechanisms of governance of agro-ecosystem services.

The Contribution of Nitrate Dissimilation to Nitrate Consumption in narG- and napA-Containing Nitrate Reducers with Various Oxygen and Nitrate Supplies

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2022
Nitrate reducers containing narG or napA play an important role in the nitrogen cycle, but little is known about their functional differentiations in relation to environmental changes.

Fish morphometric body condition indices reflect energy reserves but other physiological processes matter

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2023
Morphometric indices of body condition are assumed to reflect an animal’s health and ultimately its fitness, but their physiological significance remains a matter of debate.

Montado Mediterranean Ecosystem (Soil–Pasture–Tree and Animals): A Review of Monitoring Technologies and Grazing Systems

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Montado is an agro-silvo-pastoral ecosystem characteristic of the south of Portugal and called Dehesa in Spain. Its four fundamental components—soil, pasture, trees, and animals—as well as the climate make Montado a highly complex ecosystem.

Nano-microplastic and agro-ecosystems: a mini-review

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2023
Plastics’ unavoidable and rampant usage causes their trash to be extensively dispersed in the atmosphere and land due to its numerous characteristics. Because of extensive plastic usage and increased manufacturing, there is insufficient recycling and a large accumulation of microplastics (MPs) in the environment.

Mapping the “Supply–Demand–Flow” of Ecosystem Services for Ecosystem Management in China

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a “supply–demand–flow” framework clarifies how ecosystem services move between regions by distinguishing potential and actual supply and demand. Using integrated biophysical–socioeconomic modeling, nine services in China were mapped.
