Water‐saving strategies in rice farming entail cascading effects in prey–predator interactions across ecosystem boundaries

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 9, Page 2273-2282, September 2025.
These results show that introducing multiple drainage periods in rice fields (i.e. AWD) indirectly hampers terrestrial spider reproduction through limiting the emergence of potential preys from the aquatic to terrestrial boundaries. MSD resulted in a more conciliatory strategy as it largely reduces methane emissions and does not affect predator–prey ...

Livelihood resilience: The role of social‐ecological filters in a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System of southern Chile

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 8, Page 1889-1904, August 2025.
Abstract The global agrifood system faces significant threats due to rapid and interconnected social‐ecological changes, including climate change, land‐use shifts, demographic changes and emerging diseases. Small‐scale farmers are among the most vulnerable groups to these changes due to their direct dependence on their environment.

Landscape composition and orchard management effects on bat assemblages and bat foraging activity in apple crops

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract Bats are acknowledged as suppliers of essential ecosystem services such as insect pest control in agroecosystems. Little is known, however, on how bat assemblages respond to the gradients imposed by anthropogenic landscapes and farming practices and how these environmental effects translate into changes in bat foraging.
